Delia entered the chapel where her parents’ bodies were laid.
Creak, creak.
In the quiet and solemn chapel, the sound of Delia’s footsteps echoed slowly.
The incessant sound of her shoes, seemingly endless, only stopped when she reached the front row.
Delia sat by the window, clasping her hands together.
Ignoring the urns of her parents in front of her, she lifted her head.
The angelic figure carved into the chapel pillar gazed down at her.
Thud, thud.
In the depths of contemplation, Delia heard the heavy and solemn sound of military boots approaching.
Dyke, having walked to the front row where Delia sat, took a seat at the opposite end.
As their relationship drifted apart, so did the distance between them.
“Sorry for making you wait. We were delayed because we also had something to investigate.”
Dyke’s voice echoed like a reverberation in the chapel.
“So, did you find anything?”
“We received a report that weapon crates were stolen from the military camp stationed in the Belloni region.”
“And then?”
“The implicated soldiers will be disciplined for neglecting weapon management, and they will be forcibly summoned to the empire.”
“Is that all?”
“We haven’t received reports from Leicester Port and some other areas yet. As soon as the messengers arrive, we’ll report on the remaining regions.”
Even though Delia must have heard the entire report, she remained silent.
She just gazed silently at the angelic statue.
“I’ve sent a messenger to inform the commander about the current situation. As soon as the commander returns, we’ll hand over the duties and accept any punishment.”
Delia slowly stood up.
The chapel was so quiet that even the rustling of her dress was audible.
Breaking the silence, Delia walked towards the chapel where her parents’ bodies were laid.
Carefully stroking the urns, she spoke quietly.
“They assassinated the king and queen of Iorenti, killed the guards, using imperial guns.”
At the mention of the imperial army, Dyke bowed his head.
“They are very ruthless. They’ve already lost their lives and turned their guns towards the defenseless king.”
Delia paused for a moment, her voice trembling.
“They shot dozens of times, desecrating the body beyond recognition. And yet…”
Revealing the horrifying details, Delia’s voice trembled faintly.
“They left the face intact.”
For a moment, Dyke felt a chilling shiver running down his spine.
“As if wanting anyone to know that the dead before them was the king of Iorenti, killed by the imperial army.”
Delia turned her gaze towards the widowed queen.
It was indeed an unfortunate encounter for both of them.
Did she anticipate this situation?
“They might be the resistance forces of Iorenti dissatisfied with the royal family that made a pact with the empire.”
She believed that with time, everyone would understand her choices.
She had deliberately ignored the fact that things would improve when the country regained stability under the name of Iorenti.
It wasn’t until facing her parents’ death that she felt as if she had awakened from a dream.
“One thing is certain; these are the actions of those who do not wish for a peaceful alliance between Iorenti and the Stelreicht Empire.”
Delia looked up at the angelic statue that gazed down on her.
Whether accepting the commander’s proposal or facing her parents’ death, the angelic statue continued to watch Delia unwaveringly.
“Find the assassins of the king. Capture the culprits and punish them publicly.”
“But the commander has ordered you not to leave the princess’s side. Act when the commander returns.”
“Assistant Dyke.”
In the empty chapel, Delia’s resolute voice echoed.
“What is currently at risk is not me inside the royal palace but those outside the palace walls. It includes the imperial army guarding the borders, the Iorenti army, and even the people of this land.”
Delia turned her head and looked at Dyke.
“If a war breaks out again due to this incident, then peace treaties won’t be able to stop it.”
To prevent them from exploiting her parents’ death.
To ensure that death does not occur again between Iorenti and Stelreicht.
It had to be stopped before the situation became irreparable.
“So, act now. If you wait until the commander arrives, it will be too late.”
Before sunrise, Dyke organized a search party and departed for the royal capital.
According to the commander, it was a quiet forest before arriving in Belloni.
By the time they arrived at the crime scene, the sun was already high in the sky.
Looking around, Dyke left a self-reflective comment.
“A perfect place for a crime.”
A secluded forest path with no signs of human presence.
The bodies had been removed, but the bloodstains scattered in the green grass revealed the brutality of the previous day.
Wheel tracks of a carriage, traces of dozens of horseshoes on the muddy ground, and scattered bullet fragments from imperial soldiers were visible.
There must be clues here.
“Search every inch of the surroundings.”
At Dyke’s command, the search party began to inspect the forest.
My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband
This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.
The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.
They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.
In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.
When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.
She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.
Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!
Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
Notes:
1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.
2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
