“Aargh!”

With a dull thud, a frail scream could be heard.

Unable to avoid the sharp object flying towards her face, she staggered. She then gingerly swept her hand over her forehead where the impact had struck.

Her forehead was damp. The girl looked down at her hand with wide eyes.

“Blood….”

What was beaded on her forehead was not sweat, but blood. She seemed about to burst into tears of pain.

“Hey, are you going to do it like this?”

The person who threw the object at the girl was the youngest daughter of Duke Decar, Beliar.

With an expressionless face, she walked towards the girl, clacking her shoes against the floor. Then, she lifted the bleeding girl’s face with one hand.

“Can you mimic me well like this? Pull yourself together. The wedding is tomorrow.”

Beliar looked at the girl with cold, indifferent eyes.

The girl seemed to shrink under Beliar’s gaze, her lips trembling without uttering a word.

“Do you intend to mock me with such foolish behavior because you were raised so poorly?”

“……I’m sorry.”

The girl mumbled, unable to even wipe the drops of blood trickling from her forehead.

“If you do it like this, you won’t be able to see your brother.”

At Beliar’s threatening attitude involving her brother, the girl simply bowed her head and closed her eyes.

The red drops of blood soon fell to the floor. The girl stared at the carpet soaked with blood with a blank gaze.

“Hey.”

“Ah!”

Beliar harshly shoved the girl to the side. She then looked at the girl, smiling.

“Do you know how much this carpet is? How dare you spill your filthy blood here.”

Her voice was soft, but her eyes were fierce.

It seemed to be a carpet Beliar cherished greatly. The girl quickly covered her forehead and bowed her head in apology.

“I’m sorry…… I’m sorry.”

“Are you protesting because you’re bleeding? You can’t even wipe the blood dripping down. You’re making a fuss over nothing.”

Beliar’s gaze on the girl was filled with venom. She felt no remorse for the blood caused by the object she had thrown.

The girl, with one hand still covering her forehead, clutched at her ragged dress. Then, she tried to wipe up the drops of blood on the floor.

However, the drops of blood did not disappear but spread more deeply.

“Ha.”

Beliar gave a vexed sigh at the girl’s action.

“Stop it. It’s spreading more, isn’t it? This is a luxury item you, a slave, will never be able to touch in your life. It cost more than you.”

At Beliar’s chiding words, the girl felt humiliation.

Her very self was worth less than the carpet spread on the floor. Just a mere piece of interior decoration. The realization was somewhat depressing.

The girl stood up, bowing her head at Beliar’s words. Then, she stepped outside the carpet and stood there silently.

Beliar was upset because of the ruined carpet. But, there was no time to fuss over it.

The wedding was tomorrow. Every second was precious in making the slave girl mimic her.

She forcibly suppressed her anger and looked at the girl with icy eyes.

“You have another debt to repay me.”

Beliar grinned at the rigid girl and laughed.

“Do it right. If you don’t want your innocent brother to die because of you.”

At Beliar’s words, the girl closed her eyes. Her tightly clenched fists trembled pitifully.

‘Why…… why do you keep dragging my brother into this!’

It was unfair. But the only thing she could do in this situation was one.

Perfectly mimic Beliar’s appearance.

‘I can do it…… I have to do it. I’ll definitely…… do it.’

She comforted herself. Saying she could do it, she had to do it.

‘I’m Beliar Decar. I am Beliar Decar……’

She hypnotized herself, made a resolution.

As if she never was a slave, she vowed to mimic the arrogant youngest daughter of the duke so that no one would notice.

“Now you’re looking at me in a way I like.”

Beliar looked at the girl and smiled in satisfaction.

Knock Knock.

“Our daughter.”

The voice of the duke was heard from outside the door. Beliar smiled at the corner of her mouth and replied.

“Come in, father.”

At Beliar’s voice, the Duke opened the door and entered.

“I was worried so I came. I was wondering whether that lowly child is mimicking you well.”

The Duke’s cold eyes scanned the girl’s body. His eyes were completely different from when he looked at his daughter Beliar. They were harsh and intimidating.

Belliar looked at the girl beside him and gave an enigmatic smile.

“Well… It’s not bad.”

At Belliar’s words, the girl flinched. She, who just before had thrown objects at me, insisting I do it right, had uttered the words ‘not bad’ to her father.

‘Could it be… is she trying to protect me?’

He felt grateful that she might have been protecting him, even if it was a misunderstanding.

The Duke watched the girl with a gloomy gaze, soon retracted his stare. Then he addressed his daughter with a worried voice.

“You should be boarding the ship to another country in the morning. Why won’t you get some sleep, even for a few hours?”

“It’s okay, father. I can sleep on the ship.”
