Before long, Rosé, who had regained her senses, alternately looked at the old ceiling and the people surrounding her.
‘…Who are they?’
She remembered seeing Grand Duke Arteum, but after that, she had no memory at all.
Rosé looked at them with a confused expression. Rosé’s gaze lingered on the woman with pink hair.
‘Ah…’
A pure woman with regular features.
Her purple eyes were slightly different from Rosé’s, but anyone would see her as Rosé’s mother.
Because they were very much alike at first glance.
‘This is Rosé’s mother.’
Rosé withdrew her gaze from Rivera and looked at the middleaged man in front of her.
A stubbornlooking man.
Underneath his strong eyes, his tightly closed mouth was visibly trembling.
‘Rosé’s father. This man… keeps holding my hand.’
Does he cherish her? Their touching hands were very warm.
Rosé didn’t know how to treat her parents, whom she was seeing for the first time.
‘What should I say? Judging from their expressions, I think I can approach them with a smile first.’
She was almost certain that they were worried about her, but she couldn’t easily open her mouth.
They were the parents of ‘Rosé’, not her. She was a little scared that if she acted strangely, she would be exposed as a ‘fake’.
‘Parents would notice even a slight change in their daughter.’
Cold sweat trickled down her spine. She had a problem as soon as she came to her senses. Rosé rolled her anxious eyes here and there.
On the other hand, Count and Countess Serbiat were overwhelmed with the fact that they met Rosé again.
“My baby…”
Rivera approached Rosé first. She choked up and hugged Rosé.
Without saying a word, Rosé embraced Rivera. Her skinny arms felt very cozy.
Rivera, who had been hugging Rosé, slowly raised her head and made eye contact. She stroked Rosé’s face and spoke.
“My baby, have you been okay?”
Rivera’s hand on Rosé’s shoulder began to tremble. Rosé just nodded silently at the warm heat coming from her cheeks.
For some reason, she remembered her mother in Korea beyond Rivera’s figure.
Although there was no resemblance between Rosé’s mother and her own mother, she felt a lump in her throat.
The mother who always said that her pride was ‘me’.
She was always the pride of her mother, who entered a prestigious university at once without a highpriced private lesson and even joined a large company at once.
Actually, Rosé thought that her life wasn’t that special, but she lived a life called ‘Mom’s friend’s daughter’.
‘…Are they okay?’
Suddenly, she thought of her parents in Korea.
Rosé, who had been busy adapting in the novel until now, couldn’t afford to miss them.
Her parents’ faces flickered in front of Rosé’s eyes. The faint image made her choke, and the emotions flowed out like a flood.
Just like Rosé in the original, she hadn’t seen her parents for 3 years.
The difference from Rosé is that it was not because of ‘marriage’, but because of ‘divorce’.
Her heart was so hurt that she ran away from not only her family but also her friends just because she didn’t want to meet anyone.
She could have relied on and grieved as much as she wanted, but why was it difficult then?
When she thought of her parents in her previous life, her nose began to itch. Rosé blinked her eyes quickly to hold back the rising tears.
‘Did they hear that I died?’
After the divorce, the daughter who disappeared only had an accident in a oneroom.
‘I wish… I didn’t know.’
She hoped that her parents did not know the fact that her life, which could not bloom properly, ended in vain.
Even if the whole nation knew her death, she hoped that only two people, her mother and father, did not know her death.
She didn’t want to be unfilial by leaving before her parents…
“……You must have been so hard alone. Not knowing that our daughter has become this poor… I’m really sorry. I’m sorry, my daughter. I’m really sorry.”
Countess Serbiat, who had done nothing wrong, repeated her apology to Rosé.
Hot tears dropped on Rosé’s shoulder. Rivera hugged Rosé and kept shedding tears.
“Ah……”
At Rivera’s words, the tears she had been holding back finally rolled down her cheeks.
“Ah, ah……”
The person holding her felt like her real mother left in Korea, and her heart ached.
“……I’m sorry.”
Rosé barely opened her mouth. Her voice didn’t come out properly because her nose was blocked due to her choking sobs.
“Mom… Dad… I’m really sorry.”
Rosé, who started talking, started to sob, shaking her shoulders.
She poured out the words she had been holding back, as if confessing to her parents in Korea.
“I’m really sorry I haven’t been able to visit for three years…”
If she knew she was going to die so miserably, she never would have disappeared.
“I really… missed you mom and dad.”
It was the words she had swallowed all night, drinking in a cramped oneroom apartment.
She missed her parents’ embrace.
In truth, she was so lonely being alone.
Drinking alcohol as a friend to swallow the pain, was not enjoyable at all.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
