Because a baby’s life was monotonous, there was no need for deep thought.

When the time came, maids entered the room and set food before me.

They brought water for washing and cleaned my living quarters.

Since I instinctively felt uneasy asking someone to bathe or feed me, I tried doing it myself—and though they hesitated at first, those around me gradually grew accustomed to it, and by now, no one said a word.

In fact, they seemed almost relieved that I could manage on my own without causing trouble.

‘They said it saves them work.’

Perhaps that was why their visits became less frequent.

Originally, I would see them at least ten times a day—three meals, an evening bath, morning room tidying, and periodic checks to see if I was alright.

Now, seeing them four times a day seemed like a lot.

Still, they must have felt uneasy leaving a child who had only just learned to walk completely unattended, so they stayed nearby during meals and baths—but that was all.

Since I never moved about, there was nothing to scatter; and with nothing scattered, there was nothing to clean.

Upon observation, they seemed to dust the room only once every few days.

‘Technically, daily cleaning should be the standard.’
