Aeli watched the tiny ice pellets plopping into the lake for a while, then clicked her tongue softly.

Well, whatever makes you happy is fine.

Meanwhile, the fish, mistaking the ice for food, eagerly gulped at the surface. They were so frantic it nearly drained the energy right out of her just watching.

Plop!

They actually ate it. Aeli let out a small gasp as a fish leapt from the water, opened its mouth wide, and snapped up an ice fragment.

…Blech!

Her admiration vanished instantly as it spat the ice right back out.

Upon closer inspection, about half the fish swallowed the ice whole, thinking it was food, while the other half quickly realized their mistake and spat it out.

“I’ve never given ice to fish before, so I’m not entirely sure… but they’re called fish for a reason—they live in water.”

Since eating that much ice didn’t seem dangerous, she decided to let it be.

After all, the child was clearly having so much fun—it seemed fine to let him do as he pleased this much.

Still, as she silently watched the scene, she began to reconsider when the boy leaned so far toward the water’s surface that he was practically about to dive in.

At this rate, he really might fall into the lake. Aeli called out to get his attention.
