The winter days in the north are as short as a rabbit’s tail.

Soon enough, night crept in quietly and shamelessly, like an unwelcome guest.

The world plunged abruptly into darkness, all because the sun had just dipped below the mountains.

The northern party found a clearing among the trees, pushed through the snow, and began setting up camp.

It all looked familiar.

At first, Brody had hovered around, wondering if there was anything she could help with, but once she noticed the knights growing uncomfortable, she simply stepped aside on her own.

After all, she knew absolutely nothing about camping in a snowy night, so she doubted she could be of any real help anyway.

Makeshift tents were erected here and there, and campfires were lit.

The tents were open on one small side while the other three were closed—clearly designed that way on purpose, since the fires were always placed right in front of the open side, likely to let the warmth in.

One couldn’t feel the fire’s warmth from inside the tent, yet lighting a fire inside the tent itself was impossible.

They also had to stay alert against attacks from wild animals like wolves, bears, or snow boars, so they explained that the fires served as part of their night watch as well.

Brody nodded at Teddy’s thoughtful explanation.

Around each campfire, three or four tents were arranged in a circle.

However, the knights gave Aidan and Brody an entire campfire to themselves—placed slightly apart from the rest of the group, at that.

Whether it was out of consideration for them being lovers or due to their difference in status, Brody couldn’t tell, but either way, she felt awkward about it.
