“What is this…?”

Goosebumps rose all over Brody’s body as she stood before the corridor.

As soon as she revealed herself, the northern residents shouted even more fervently.

Stunned by the vibrations filling the square and shaking the air, Brody froze in place.

She could do nothing but cover her mouth and stare at the unbelievable spectacle before her.

River approached from behind her, clasped his hands behind his back, stood straight, and spoke.

“What do you think? My handiwork.”

Seeing she remained silent, only gazing at the square, River continued.

“I sent Teddy ahead to shape public opinion throughout the north. People already knew, more or less secretly, about His Highness’s origins and the Duke’s tyranny. Of course, I added just a *tiny* bit of seasoning. I’d set the stage perfectly—though I did break a sweat when both of you vanished. But thanks to your dramatic arrival riding Kalihiel, everything wrapped up far better than I’d even hoped.”

Although River’s words reached her only in fragments through the roaring cheers, Brody could clearly sense the elation in his voice.

Slowly turning around, Brody faced River and asked,

“Did you ever plan to send me away?”

Ten years’ worth of provisions—the benefit she alone could secure.

At her question, River furrowed his brows, lifted one corner of his lips, and replied as if utterly incredulous.

“Me? Are you a fool? Even a quick flick of the abacus gives you the answer. Ten years of food? Compared to sealing the trade deal with the south? Where would you even fit that? Huh?”
