“It’s not like that… No.”

His denial came with an unusual strength in his grip.

‘How cute.’

The reason, or rather the culprit, behind the original Leonarda increasingly confining herself to her bedroom, was none other than Derrick.

He loved Leonarda and probably wanted to monopolize her.

He must have wished for her to remain a fragile, easily broken glass figurine.

Loyal to a fault, yet simultaneously resistant to change. A colossal mountain that helped Leonarda but paradoxically prevented her from evolving.

I playfully tickled his sturdy jaw, like coaxing a cat. His neck instantly flushed, and his grey eyes wavered.

He looked just like snowflakes dancing whimsically at the mere gesture of the wind.

“They seem to be having fun.”

That’s when it happened.

A voice, low yet chilling, brushed my ears, cold as if frosted over.

Derrick flinched, but I calmly straightened up and smoothed my clothes, maintaining an air of nonchalance regardless of whether it was the Emperor or his grandfather in front of me. Enrique’s eyebrows twitched slightly at my relaxed demeanor.

“What brings you to my palace so urgently, without notice?”

So, you think you’re the only one who can speak coldly.

I crossed my arms, blatantly showing an attitude of ‘you are an uninvited guest’ towards Enrique.

“I was not aware I needed to schedule a meeting to see the Empress.”

“From now on, I hope you are aware. I also schedule appointments with Your Majesty, don’t I?”

My sarcastic tone made Derrick tense up. The Imperial Guards standing behind the Emperor wore ambiguous expressions.

Honestly, anyone would react like this if they found their husband rolling around in a conference room with his mistress.

“I didn’t know the Empress was so articulate.”

“It’s not easy to understand people. You can know ten paths in a river but not one human heart.”

Enrique’s lips twisted at my pointed words.

Why he hated Leonarda so much, I wondered.

I scoffed and looked directly into Enrique’s eyes. For once, he had no choice but to meet my gaze.

“Since I am busy preparing for the banquet, may I be excused?”

“If I had nothing to say, I wouldn’t have come this far.”

“Then please speak quickly. I don’t have much time to spare for Your Majesty.”

My dry expression made the corridor’s temperature seem to plummet.

Enrique probably had never encountered such behavior from Leonarda.

She must have always been unsure of what to do in his presence.

The diary entries alone made it clear.

Leonarda was the one in love, and Enrique was indifferent. Thus, he could easily dominate the relationship.

That aspect was particularly annoying.

“The Saint nearly met with a disaster due to the food provided by the Empress’s Palace, and yet there was no apology.”

“Why should I apologize? I heard about it, and it was unfortunate, but didn’t she recover fine with holy power?”

“What if she hadn’t?”

“Such hypotheticals are pointless. In the end, the Saint is fine. She just needs to be cautious with peaches in the future. Or are you suggesting I should have anticipated and been cautious about what Your Majesty’s mistress can or cannot eat?”

Mistress.

One of the guards inhaled sharply at the blunt word.

That reaction indicated that Leonarda had never referred to Helene as a mistress before.

Ridiculous. A mistress is a mistress. Why can’t one call her that?

“I don’t understand what misunderstanding you have. I’ve said several times that Helene is not a mistress.”
“If that’s what you insist, then fine. But what was it that I heard outside the conference room door?”

“I was merely massaging her shoulders.”

“I wish you realized how feeble that excuse sounds. This is truly exhausting.”

The situation, with the two highest-ranking individuals in the imperial palace arguing in a hallway, was absurdly funny. Yet, I had no intention of offering Enrique a seat in any reception room.

Why should I?

Why would I?

‘I feel nauseous. That damned holy power…’

Being tired wasn’t a lie.

Though in a human body, my soul is that of a demon. The vibrating holy power emitted by Enrique constantly affects me adversely.

Only because I wear the ancient magical bracelet given by that boy, I’m spared from collapsing due to dizziness. Otherwise, I would have already succumbed.

“Why bother talking to someone who has branded me as untrustworthy?”

“Why did you come here, then? If you had remained indifferent as before, you wouldn’t have had to hear such bothersome words.”

I retorted sharply, not giving an inch, and even Enrique’s icy face seemed to crack.

Finally, he sighed softly and quietly spoke to me.

“Helene has been taking care of the palace in the Empress’s stead. If there’s even a shred of gratitude for that, she shouldn’t be completely ousted at this banquet.”

“Gratitude, huh…”

Ah, I want to strangle him.

Anger blurred my vision. The swirling hatred in my clouded mind threatened to overpower my reason.

‘No, I must restrain myself. I have to.’

So, he came all this way just to say that.

When the male lead is punished by carrying the female lead’s child and having periods like a woman

“I’ve given birth to two children for you, yet you still think about him.

Was I nothing but his substitute to you from beginning to end?”
