Helene loved these moments when the imperial crown and shiny cloak surrounding him became useless before her.
The moments she could call this beautiful man ‘Enri’ without reserve.
“You developed a peach allergy? Let me see.”
“Mhm. It’s better now with the holy power. I guess I can’t eat peaches anymore.”
Helene hurriedly pretended to wipe her tears, not forgetting to make each action cute.
Enrique liked cute women.
“What was all that talk just now?”
“You heard?”
Though she intended it to be heard.
Helene had calculated precisely the time it would take for Enrique to hear the news and come to the Lily Palace.
He wouldn’t come right away, but if he handled urgent matters quickly, he would arrive around this time.
Helene widened her eyes and pretended to be flustered.
“It’s nothing. Enri doesn’t need to worry.”
“Tell me. You’ve always held back your words, swallowing them. It must have made you sick.”
“Just… just being from Quid seems a bit… disliked. Ah, but maybe I’m just feeling it that way!”
Helene quickly added that.
The Empress hadn’t even mentioned Quid, but by throwing it out like this, Enrique would surely be angry.
It didn’t matter later if the Empress said she never said such things.
The largest group disdaining her for being from Quid was the nobility, after all.
“I took everything I prepared for the banquet. But the Empress seems to have other thoughts. She didn’t even look properly. I left it there but…”
Helene bit her lip slightly, trailing off, then mumbled towards Enrique who had come close to sit by her.
“Everyone liked the banquets I hosted. I gained confidence from that, but maybe someone like me shouldn’t have.”
“Someone like you?”
Enrique’s voice grew colder. At that, Helene immediately hiccupped.
“Ah, sorry…! I got, hiccup, startled.”
Hiccup. Hiccup!
With unstoppable hiccups, Helene covered her mouth with her hands, glancing around.
“I forgot you’re sensitive. Sorry.”
Enrique sighed softly and immediately apologized, holding Helene’s hand. Helene intertwined her fingers with his large hand and murmured dejectedly.
“I just want to help with something, even if it’s tiny. But I guess that’s not possible… I have to endure. If I step forward wanting to do this and that, it’ll seem like I’m fighting with Her Majesty the Empress. I don’t want that.”
Helene never spoke her desires directly. She always conveyed them in a roundabout way.
Then Enrique would always figure out what she wanted and hand it to her.
“I’ll go see if there’s something you can help with.”
“Really? Won’t she hate me more?”
“If I talk to her, she’ll listen.”
Looking at Enrique’s indifferent profile, Helene grinned broadly.
“Yes. Right, Enri is the Emperor now. Everyone has to listen to the Emperor’s words!”
“I’ll ask, so don’t cry and hurt yourself waiting.”
“Thank you. But don’t push yourself too hard, Enri.”
In reality, she hoped he would push himself further.
She wanted the Emperor to fight the nobility just for her.
‘But if he really does, I might be disappointed. I like Enri for being a perfect Emperor. Even his slightly cold side.’
Enrique, busy with work, quickly returned to the imperial palace.
Helene sent all the maids away and wallowed in solitude. While she outwardly appeared so, her mind was busily working.
‘But earlier, Enri didn’t react much to the word “peach”, did he?’
Once, there was a woman Enrique loved.
And her favorite fruit was none other than peaches.
Unconsciously, Helene bit her nails.
‘I must not have a single thing in common with that woman, and I have to cover all memories of her with myself.’
What the other woman liked, she must hate, and what was safe for her must become dangerous for Helene.
Enough time had passed for Enrique to forget that woman, so it seemed okay to do so.
‘The Empress is no threat at all. The one who shook Enrique the most was that woman.’
A tall figure, matching the height of male knights. A grand, robust build.
A demon, with jet-black hair absorbing light, grown long, wearing ancient, traditional clothes that must have been made centuries ago.
She didn’t even try to hide her identity.
Discovering that woman was a great fortune for Helene.
During a time when her position in the temple was becoming unstable.
The demon she stumbled upon was the perfect prey for Helene.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
