Passing through a silence that had settled like a dark night fog, the carriage arrived before the main gate of the Grand Duke’s residence.
“Welcome back.”
Marline, standing at the entrance, greeted the Grand Duke and his consort returning from the banquet. Imperial banquets usually lasted until dawn. Though surprised by their earlier-than-expected return, Marline quickly masked her curiosity and skillfully attended to them with her usual composure.
“Your bath is prepared. Please change and rest at once.”
Having finished greeting Kaeron, Marline was about to head toward the dressing room with Aidel when she halted at the sound of her name being called.
“Marline.”
“Yes, Your Highness.”
“I’ll be going to the Grand Duchess’s chamber tonight. Please have it ready.”
“Understood.”
At Kaeron’s words instructing her to prepare the Grand Duchess’s room, Marline’s face flushed with color.
It would be their first night together since the honeymoon. The Grand Duke had been too occupied with external affairs these past few days to even return home.
