Unaware of Aidel’s presence, the child and the old woman faced each other and continued their quiet conversation.

“So, did the two of them fall in love at first sight?”

When the child asked in a clear and innocent voice, the old woman answered with a sorrowful smile.

“The woman realized that her feelings for the man were love and nurtured that emotion, but the man, who believed love to be meaningless, stubbornly denied his growing attraction to her. Thus, without ever sharing their true feelings, they accumulated wounds upon each other.”

Hearing the old woman’s words, memories from the past welled up in Aidel, causing her to frown and clutch at her aching heart.

“Moreover, trials continued to arise trying to separate them. During that time, the woman heard a rumor that her unique fragrance was actually a fairy’s curse binding the man to her. After much inner turmoil, she resolved to leave his side for his sake.”

“Was that fragrance truly a fairy’s curse?”

“Of course not. Though it was recorded as such in the histories due to Emperor Jupiter’s misinterpretation, the woman’s special scent was not a curse—but a blessing bestowed by the fairies. It was hoped that, in later generations, Fleur’s descendants would find true love, and Jupiter’s descendants would come to understand love’s true value.”

So the historical records had been wrong all along… Aidel’s eyes shimmered with relief as she finally understood the true meaning of her own fragrance.

“Yet, unaware of this truth, the two ultimately parted ways. Only after the woman left his side did the man regret not honestly expressing his feelings. He then searched desperately for her, willing to risk everything.”

Listening to the old woman’s tale, Aidel’s pupils trembled slightly. This was a story about Kaeron that she had never fully known.

“He eventually found her, but by then the woman’s life was in grave danger—and the man himself was critically wounded as well. In a situation where only one life could be saved, he resolved to sacrifice himself to save her. As he lay dying, he finally confessed his love, though far too late.”

Aidel bit down hard on her trembling lips. Her eyes welled with clear tears, overflowing with emotion. Only now, having been unconscious at the time, did she understand the feelings with which Kaeron had saved her.

“Then… did the man die after saving the woman?”

The child asked tearfully, filled with sorrow. The old woman gently stroked the child’s head to comfort them and shook her head.
