Aidel’s eyelids fluttered as she slowly awoke from a long slumber.

“Your Highness Bi! Are you coming to your senses?”

As her blurred vision gradually sharpened, Bien’s worried face came clearly into view, prompting Aidel to struggle open her heavy eyelids.

She had desperately hoped that upon opening her eyes once more, everything would prove to have been an illusion…

Yet the moment her large eyes finally opened, they trembled violently as they grasped the reality before her. Clear tears spilled from her hazy jade-green eyes, trailing down her pale cheeks.

Bien, dressed unusually in black attire, served as a cruel reminder that the news Aidel had heard before losing consciousness was an unbearable truth.

“His… Highness…”

Aidel’s parched lips parted feebly, and a hoarse whisper escaped her throat. Bien understood instantly what Aidel was trying to say, even before hearing the full words. At the sight of Aidel’s pitiful state, Bien’s own long-suppressed tears spilled anew.

“Sob… Your Highness Bi…”

Bien embraced Aidel as if to comfort her. Feeling Aidel’s frail frame and delicate bones beneath her arms made her heart ache even more.

“Although… His Grace the Grand Duke has passed…”

Hearing Bien’s words—forcing her to confront once again the situation she desperately wished to forget—sent Aidel’s entire body trembling in anguish. The sorrow was so overwhelming it felt like a crushing gravity, shattering her into pieces.

Just as Aidel clenched her teeth, her eyelids burning as though they might crumble to ash, Bien’s next words caused Aidel’s eyes to snap wide open.

“You must regain your strength—for the sake of the young prince or princess who will soon be born.”
