Aidel remained in the classroom after class, tidying up, when the door opened and two children entered, squabbling with each other.
“My side is right!”
“No way! Even the teacher said you’re wrong!”
Upon hearing the boy mention the teacher, the girl—who had insisted she was correct—flushed bright red. Just as she seemed about to burst into tears, she spotted Aidel and immediately ran straight toward her.
“Teacher!”

Aidel gently bent her knees slightly and pulled the girl into her arms, speaking kindly. The girl, nestled against her chest, wiped away the tears gathering at the corners of her eyes with her hand, then looked up at Aidel and asked,
“Teacher… please tell me. You really are a princess, aren’t you?”
Meeting the girl’s pleading gaze, Aidel gave an awkward smile. The child had been asking her this same question repeatedly for a while now.
Ever since their very first meeting, the girl had firmly believed Aidel was a princess—holding out her cherished storybook and insisting the princess illustrated inside looked exactly like Aidel.
Though she didn’t want to shatter the child’s innocent belief, Aidel also couldn’t bring herself to tell a lie. She had already told the girl she wasn’t a princess, yet the girl still seemed convinced otherwise.
“I wish it were true… but I’m just a teacher, nothing more. I know it’s disappointing, but I promise I’ll show you a real princess someday.”
As she gently patted the girl, Aidel thought of Ophelia. Being an imperial princess, Ophelia was the closest match to the princess the girl imagined. Aidel resolved that once Kaeron stopped searching for her… she would send Ophelia a letter, asking her to visit.
“See? The teacher herself said she isn’t!”
