He knew instantly, even without turning his head, that the person he had been desperately waiting for had arrived.

The myriad floral fragrances that had filled the glass greenhouse were now rendered meaningless; only her scent completely filled his lungs. Feeling his heartbeat grow even clearer, Kaeron slowly turned his head.

“Come in. I’ve been waiting for you.”

Under the pure white moonlight, when the man gently smiled at her, Aidel bit down hard on her lower lip, overwhelmed by a dizzying sensation. No matter how much she tried to compose herself, her heart kept trembling helplessly toward him.

“Won’t you sit down?”

At his gentle suggestion, Aidel concealed her inner turmoil as best she could and sat opposite him. Avoiding his gaze, her eyes lowered to the table.

Looking at the elaborate feast carefully arranged in the center of the greenhouse, she realized it had all been specially prepared for her alone. As her heart swelled with joy at this dreamlike moment, a sharp ache simultaneously spread through a corner of her chest.

“It feels like it’s been a long time since we’ve shared a formal meal like this, just the two of us.”

“…Yes.”

“We’ve both been occupied with things we wanted to accomplish.”

Kaeron spoke first to her and subtly observed Aidel’s face as she sat across from him. It would have been a lie to say he hadn’t imagined her delighting in this scene he had prepared. Yet Aidel’s expression showed not a hint of excitement—in fact, it seemed somewhat subdued.

“Congratulations. I heard your efforts have finally borne fruit.”

Recalling the news Gregory had relayed, Kaeron offered her a wine-filled glass along with his congratulations, hoping to lighten the mood. But instead, his words darkened Aidel’s expression further. Her eyelashes trembled faintly.

‘If he’s talking about results… he must mean the new noble decree has passed.’
