Two men were walking across the arched bridge that connected the Imperial Palace and the royal gardens.

Unlike the lazy sunlight illuminating the scenic promenade, Pascal’s expression was rigidly set. He turned toward Kaeron, who walked beside him, and spoke first in a heavy voice.

“This recent affair you stirred up in Lisandro was unlike you, Brother.”

“Unlike me?”

“Yes. You yourself once said it was wise to remain neutral in foreign succession disputes. Yet you openly attacked Lisandro’s First and Second Princes…”

“You know well enough that they struck first. Are you saying I should have left alone those who sought to harm my wife?”

“…Even so, your actions were unlike your usual self. The man you were before would never have taken such a course.”

In Pascal’s eyes, the Grand Duke’s actions—plunging the Second Prince into a coma and challenging the First Prince to a life-or-death duel—had been reckless and impulsive. These acts alone were enough to make it seem as though the Grand Duke now opposed the first two princes and supported the Third Prince.

The Grand Duke, who had never acted rashly before, was gradually changing. And at the heart of this change stood the Grand Duchess. Frowning, Pascal asked Kaeron in a low voice,

“Has your transformation… truly been because of the Grand Duchess?”

Kaeron halted abruptly and turned to meet Pascal’s gaze. His younger brother’s blue eyes, wrapped in cold reason, were sharp with icy clarity—an expression he knew all too well.

‘Because it’s exactly how I used to look.’

Seeing Pascal, who mirrored his former self, Kaeron keenly felt how different he had become. His eyes grew distant as he sank into thought. Pascal was right: ever since meeting Aidel, he had changed.

“Yes. It’s true—I’ve changed because of the Grand Duchess.”

After a moment, Kaeron spoke plainly, readily acknowledging this new version of himself.
