Sharati carefully sat on the bed and opened her bag. The crushed carrot and potato soup had cooled to just the right temperature.

‘It’s mealtime.’

Out of courtesy, Sharati wrote on the man’s palm before taking out a spoon. She carefully scooped up the soup and guided it to the man’s mouth.

Then, due to an awkward posture, she spilled some soup.

‘…Ah!’

Feeding a sleeping person was never an easy task.

‘Excuse me.’

After seeking an apology from the sleeping man, Sharati climbed onto the bed.

She sat by his head and placed his head on her thigh. Previously, it had been a struggle, but now it was easier.

[Teacher. You should do it like Birena sister did for me. It’s called a knee pillow!]

It was Tein’s advice to Sharati, who had struggled to feed the man soup without spilling.

Despite the embarrassing and awkward posture, the patient’s nutritional intake was important.

Hoping the man wouldn’t wake, Sharati carefully fed him while covering his eyes with one hand.

‘At least he chews and swallows well in his sleep.’

The man, even while asleep, accepted and swallowed whatever was given to him without any spillage.

She scraped the bowl clean, feeding him the last bite.

Compared to Tein, who was still learning dining etiquette, the man’s sleep dining manners were remarkably neat.

Sharati checked the man who was quietly resting his head on her thigh.

‘If I had fed him more nutritious food, he would have recovered faster.’

For instance, meat or fruit.

But that was an impossible task for her.

She sighed silently. Having nothing always narrowed her choices, leaving her feeling heavy-hearted.

‘But at least I treated the scars well.’

Both internal and external injuries were healing smoothly.

She was trying to erase any signs of terrible experiences reviving in his mind, doing her duty as a doctor.

Lost in thought, she took in the man’s distinct features.

The cave was dark, and she had thought his hair was black, but the man actually had deep dark brown hair. His thick eyebrows and well-defined jawline exuded masculinity.

Despite being ill and sleeping for several days, his muscular body was just as well-built as when she first saw him.

‘What kind of person is he to have such a body?’

Staring blankly at his solidly formed abs, Sharati quickly regained her composure.

‘Hmm. I should dress him. It’s getting colder, and a blanket won’t be enough.’

But buying clothes for the man meant dealing with the village’s talkative clothes shop owner, which she had been avoiding to not draw unnecessary attention.

‘Maybe I should make them myself…’

There was a place in the village where unused fabrics were collected.

It would be a lot of work, but it seemed the best option under the circumstances.

‘…Hmm…’

Sharati’s gaze lingered on the man, filled with hesitation.

She hoped he would wake up soon and leave in good health. Yet, she had a premonition that getting more deeply involved with this man would not be wise.
Sharati was confused about her use of sedatives – whether it was for her own safety or the premonition that her tranquil life might be disrupted.

“…It seems I’ve grown attached to him.”

Without realizing, Sharati found herself gently touching the man’s hair.

“Teacher!”

“…!”

Startled by Tein’s sudden arrival, Sharati unconsciously gripped her hand tightly.

Crack. In a moment, the man’s hair was caught tightly in Sharati’s hand. The man’s body tensed for an instant, but Sharati, hastily adjusting her posture, didn’t notice.

As Sharati scrambled off the bed, Tein rushed in with his short legs, his face and clothes covered in dirt. He smiled brightly, holding out a herb.

“This is Dongdoch’o! It helps maintain body temperature and aids in wound recovery.”

Sharati awkwardly smiled, writing on Tein’s palm.

“You went to pick herbs alone again.”

Tein beamed with a wide grin.

However, him coming here alone was risky.

‘If the kid wanders up the mountain alone, he might catch the soldiers’ attention.’

Sharati frowned slightly.

Before she could advise restraint, the child’s eyes sparkled with excitement.

“I washed it cleanly with water!”

Praise was first and foremost.

“Thank you, Tein.”

“Medicine should be taken after meals. So, I came just in time for lunch!”

Truly an excellent apprentice and assistant.

Sharati patted Tein’s face and head repeatedly.

She gently placed the finely chopped Dongdoch’o into the man’s mouth.

“This patient is amazing. Dongdoch’o is extremely bitter, but his expression doesn’t change.”

For a moment, the man’s lips twitched.

“Ah! Seeing his brow furrow, his sense of taste must still be there!”

Tein spoke cheerfully.

Meanwhile, Sharati glanced at the empty bowl, thinking of the herbs she added to the man’s meals. They were all herbs with strong, bitter tastes.

‘But hasn’t he been eating everything I gave him?’

Hmm? Sharati’s gaze shifted quietly to the man.

Despite being asleep due to the sedatives, he chewed and swallowed the herbs well. However, even when Tein pressed his arm muscles, there was no response.

Sharati sought a rational explanation rather than jumping to conclusions.

‘He had a mild fever before, and even though he’s recovering quickly, his body wasn’t normal, so maybe he couldn’t taste it.’

Seeing his reaction to the bitter taste, his recovery seemed to be going smoothly.

“Teacher.”

After confirming that the man had swallowed all the herbs, Tein approached Sharati with his palm outstretched.

“Why?”

Tein hesitated before speaking.

“I want to apply the medicine to the patient before he wakes up.”

Twiddling his little fingers, Tein expressed his wish.

“I am young, so no one trusts me. Patients get anxious. But this patient is asleep. He won’t know if I treat him. Teacher, I want to help treat him!”

Treatment now was simple – just applying medicine to the wounds.

Tein, eager to perform this basic task, clenched his fist and passionately persuaded Sharati.

‘Indeed, this little genius must have been itching to help all this time.’

Sharati glanced at the man on the bed, pondering for a moment.

“Then, how about Tein takes care of him until he wakes up?”

Tein’s face lit up at Sharati’s permission. The child, trying not to wake the man, covered his mouth with his hand, not knowing what to do with his excitement.

‘So cute.’

Just as Tein excitedly began to recite the herbs to use on the man,

“…Uh, um…”

“…?”

“Teacher! The patient’s strong arm is twitching.”

Suddenly?

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
