Blair headed toward the greenhouse in the rear garden where Agnes was waiting.

Agnes, who had been reading a book, spotted Blair entering the greenhouse and rose from her seat to greet her.

“Your complexion looks much better today, my lady.”

Though Agnes’s words seemed entirely innocent, Blair felt an inexplicable twinge of discomfort.

A month ago, when she’d been confined by Herdin and barely able to leave her bedroom, Blair hadn’t seen Agnes for ten whole days.

Either trapped in her room by Herdin or too exhausted to stay awake on days he wasn’t there.

When they finally met again after those ten days, Agnes had worriedly remarked, “You seem to have lost some weight.” Mason wouldn’t have disclosed the master and mistress’s private affairs to anyone else, yet Blair still felt uneasy about it.

So of course she looked healthier today—after all, the person who’d plagued her nights had vanished.

Blair feigned composure and asked lightly,

“Do you think so?”

“Yes. Perhaps it’s because the weather has warmed up? In any case, I’m glad to see you regaining your health.”

After exchanging pleasantries, the two women began chatting about light, everyday matters.

Agnes mostly recounted small incidents involving her family, while Blair spoke of Pipi’s growth and her own feelings about it.

“How about sharing a memory related to fire today? It could be from before the accident or after—whichever you feel comfortable discussing, my lady.”

Just as Agnes was about to begin their usual session, Blair interrupted her.
