The next morning, Blair opened her eyes in Herdin’s arms. He must have returned while she was asleep.

In fact, she vaguely recalled sensing him holding her in her half-asleep state.

Yet her unconscious mind had simply found his embrace cozy and drifted back to sleep—despite having grown accustomed to sleeping alone for the past two months.

Blair tried to slip out of his embrace and pushed against his thick arms. In response, Herdin only pulled her closer, his grip tightening further.

“…Awake already?”

She had wondered if he might have woken up, but his steady breathing confirmed he was still asleep.

Assured he was sleeping, Blair lifted his arm off her as if moving a heavy sack—without the slightest hint of caution.

She no longer cared to consider his feelings or hold her breath to avoid upsetting him.

Despite her efforts, Herdin merely frowned slightly but didn’t wake.

Given that he was usually a light sleeper, the fact that he remained asleep despite her movements suggested he was thoroughly exhausted. Perhaps that explained why his expression yesterday had seemed unusually sharp.

Having slipped from his arms, Blair stared blankly at his peacefully sleeping face—unlike her usual self—before turning away indifferently and sitting up.

This man was loathsome, truly detestable; yet if she kept gazing at that unfairly handsome, tranquil face, even her resentment might fade away.

Of course, the moment he opened his eyes, her fury would surge again as if nothing had happened.

As she rose from the bed, the first thing she saw was the window directly ahead. Beyond it lay a garden, meticulously tended by expert hands.
