Herdin dismounted and approached the villa, where guards stationed at the entrance greeted him.
“We’ll escort you inside.”
Herdin gestured to stop the Delmarque knights who moved to follow him, then entered the villa alone.
Inside the dimly lit room, only a single lamp glowed on the central table, where a man sat cloaked in a robe.
Herdin placed a note he’d pulled from his pocket onto the table.
It was a message that had arrived an hour earlier.
[“Twelve years ago, Your Grace’s father and mother did not die by accident—they were deliberately murdered.”]
The note, beginning with those words, concluded by stating this matter could not be discussed in writing and requested a face-to-face meeting.
“If you weren’t suicidal, you wouldn’t frivolously meddle in another’s family affairs.”
Herdin’s voice remained calm, yet his eyes held a chilling, murderous glint as he stared at the man.
Intimidated by that icy gaze, the man flinched briefly before replying courteously.
“I lack the standing to visit you openly, and sending documents to the ducal estate risked them falling into others’ hands—thus, I had no choice but to summon you to this humble place. Please forgive my impertinence.”
“Skip the pleasantries. Explain everything—what this note means, how you learned of it, and how much you know.”

She’s a real lady. No one would have written a farewell letter with such grace and little to no recrimination. Also: I LOVE she took no clothes or jewels, I know she didn’t do it out of pettiness nor to slight him but he’ll totally take it that way
