Here is the English translation of the Korean paragraph:

“Is it difficult? It’s quite simple.”

His cold gaze and mocking voice brushed past Blair. The pupils of Blair, who was looking at him like that, wavered.

“…He doesn’t believe me.”

His sincerity was clearer to her than ever before.

She had misunderstood.

What she thought was taking her side because of Lena’s incident was merely his inability to tolerate the servants’ insolence. Disrespecting his wife, her, was no different from disrespecting him.

The image she had hoped for was ridiculous.

Blair looked away, avoiding his gaze. Her eyelashes, slowly opening and closing, trembled.

Blair pushed away from his chest and pulled away from his embrace.

“…I’m sorry. I had a dream.”

Her voice, barely audible, was trembling uncontrollably. She left the room as it was.

Watching her back beyond the closing door, Haldin downed the rest of the whiskey in his glass.

The alcohol, swelling in his empty stomach, felt scorching, like swallowing hot coals.

The sound of hoofbeats echoed through the silent winter forest.

Startled birds flew away. Even that small shock was enough to make the heavy white snow piled on the trees fall off with a rustle.

This year’s winter hunt was progressing smoothly as well.

Each noble family was required to catch a mountain offering to dedicate to the gods as the first event of the New Year in the royal hunting grounds.

Unlike the usual hunts, the winter hunt was conducted separately by each family, pooling their efforts.

The nobles competing to capture better game in order to please the gods, who were said to be pleased with more valuable offerings. It was an event that involved the pride of the families.

Since it was a family competition, noblewomen and their daughters were exceptions and rode horses along with their husbands and families. Blair was one of them.

Haldin’s gaze, searching for prey on the white snowfield, turned to Blair, who was following behind him. When he saw her flushed face from the cold, he suddenly remembered yesterday’s conversation.

“There will be a marauder in the hunting grounds tomorrow.”

If those words were true, it meant that a marauder would appear here today. It was strange that she, who knew this fact, would willingly follow him to this dangerous place.

“What on earth is she thinking?”

Haldin let out a small sigh and called the commander of the Delmark Knights, who was following behind him.

“Kai.”

At his call, the knight approached him and listened to his command.

“Ensure the safety of the Duchess and her entourage.”

“Yes, Your Highness.”

The commander conveyed Haldin’s orders to the subordinates and they approached Blair.

As Haldin watched her from behind, a soft cough was heard from his back. When he heard that sound, his forehead narrowed. His gaze, which had been focused on searching for game on the white snowfield, became more alert.

The cry of an animal was heard from a distance.

Kwook!

It sounded like the cry of a wild boar.

With the flapping sound of birds flying away, Blair, who was surprised, took a deep breath.

However, the cry of the wild boar did not stop with just one. It continued one after another. It seemed that the wild boar was repeatedly making a fuss because it couldn’t catch its prey in one go. The sound was irritating.

Stupid creature. How much of an arrow are you wasting trying to catch just one?

As Haldin ridiculed the unknown and pathetic archer behind him, one of the knights urgently shouted.

“Your Highness, there’s a white doe over there!”

The knight’s gaze pointed to where a white doe was wandering on the white snowfield.

The doe’s fur was pure white. Among them, white doe fur was the most valuable. It was enough to serve as a proper offering to the gods.

Haldin immediately pulled back the bowstring and shot the doe.

The arrow that flew hit the doe precisely, and the blood of the doe splattered on the white snowfield.
Here is the English translation of the Korean paragraph:

Haldin, confirming that the fawn was no longer moving, turned to leave when he noticed a hole in a tree trunk.

Approaching it, he saw a young fawn still unable to open its eyes inside the hollow of the tree.

“…There’s a fawn here.”

Haldin took out a dagger from his belt. At that moment, Blair’s voice came from behind him.

“Haldin, what are you… doing now?”

“In a situation where it has no mother to protect it, it won’t be long before it becomes prey to predators. It’s better for this little one to die with its mother than face that fate now.”

“No!”

Blair urgently got off her horse and grabbed his hand holding the dagger. Haldin’s forehead narrowed.

“What are you doing?”

“It might survive.”

“An infant that hasn’t even opened its eyes yet, in this harsh winter where it’s difficult to find food?”

“Even if it’s destined to die soon, as you say, we can’t call that mercy. Living one more day is better.”

Haldin smirked. Was it baseless optimism or hypocrisy? Either way, it was something he despised.

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
