Not knowing what to do, I just held his head tightly against my waist. His long nails, already fully grown, curled around me. He suddenly raised his upper body and pulled me close.

My shoulders were hastily pushed down as I sat, and in that motion I awkwardly ended up lying down. Johannes pounced on top of me. The exposed nape of his neck between his collar was already bronze. That color spread up to his ears and down to his cheeks.

And his face, contorted with unknown feelings. He was gnashing his teeth so hard that his elongated canines were visible outside his lips like a beast. On that face, ah, I saw it. Self-reproach, anxiety, pain, fear, anger.

Lust.

Those things boiling up from deep within.

My fever-addled brain went completely blank. Johannes’ teeth parted as ragged breaths poured out. He tried to press his lips to my forehead, but jerked away as if having a seizure. By then, his nearly fully extended wings were thrashing wildly, pushing out to their very roots.

Clearly trying his hardest not to make contact, his lower body accidentally brushed against my bent thigh. Even that fleeting touch was enough to feel how incredibly it had grown…

I understood.

The realization washed over me like a flood.

Yes. So you want to utterly destroy us ‘in this way’ no matter what. Instead of granting my wish, you want to drive us to betray God. You want to push us to a point of no return. If there is truly a curse, that would be it.

And so my Johannes suffers so terribly, trying to protect me from you.

…Seeing him like that, my heart is torn to shreds once again, and we both feel such anguish for each other… This is what you, now truly our enemy, want…

Ah, what have I…
