“This is a splendid party. Thank you so much for inviting us, Dowager Duchess.”

“I’m the one who should be thanking you for attending.”

The guests first greeted the Dowager Duchess, the host of the party, and then turned their attention to Killion and Veronica.

“It’s been a while, Marquis Johnson, Marchioness.”

“Hello. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I am Nia Lamport.”

“Oh my, Lady Nia is the guest of honor today! How delightful to see you!”

Curious eyes swept over Veronica’s entire figure. She had expected it, but receiving the full attention of dozens of people all at once was no easy task.

‘But it’s something I have to go through, at least once.’

Veronica gently lowered the corners of her eyes, forcing a soft smile.

At least she had the good fortune of wearing a lace-trimmed veil covering half her face. Her facial outline would be visible, but not the precise shape of her lips, helping her hide any signs of nervousness.

There was another benefit to wearing the veil: no one looked at her face and thought of the princess who had died five years ago.

‘Making those burn scars and tattoos on my face in the first place seems to have been the right choice after all. Truly fortunate.’
