Having finished his shower, Killion returned to his bedroom still wearing his bathrobe. He sat on the edge of the bed and immediately opened the drawer of the nightstand to take out a glass bottle.

Inside was a red rose that had remained fresh for years without wilting. It was the very same glass bottle he had shared with Veronica.

Killion shook the bottle. The magic stones inside, each about the size of a pebble, rolled around with a soft clinking sound.

And then he heard Veronica’s voice.

‘I hope this gift pleases you, Lord Killion. Thank you always. I won’t forget you.’

It was a bright, light-hearted voice. Listening to her voice like this every night had become Killion’s daily ritual, never missed.

“I miss you. I long for you, Veronica… Your Highness.”

Speaking her name aloud after so long seemed to ease, just a little, the suffocating weight in his chest.

But something felt strange. At that very moment, Jediel’s smiling face unexpectedly came to mind.

‘Now that I think about it… Jediel’s smile seems somewhat like Her Highness Veronica’s…’

Killion let out a soft chuckle at that thought. Even to himself, he seemed rather absurd.

‘At first glance, he resembled Aaron, and now Her Highness Veronica… What a strange child—to resemble everyone I miss… Honestly.’

He must truly be losing his mind. Perhaps he ought to consult a physician after all.

It seemed he, not his mother, was the one who truly needed medication to fall asleep.

Shaking his head vigorously to dispel his wandering thoughts, Killion blew out the candle and lay down immediately.
