She had to get out of this situation somehow.
For herself, and for the child.
“Mom, me, and you.”
Eun Soo’s gaze shifted from her mother to her flat belly.
“Let’s live, the three of us.”
That was her conclusion.
At her simple and clear decision, Eun Soo soon burst into hollow laughter. It was because the imminent practical issues arose in her mind.
If she were to let go of everything she could grasp while living as Moon Hyuk Joo’s wife, she would have nothing left. Did her powerless self have anywhere to ask for help?
Ironically, the person Eun Soo thought of in this desperate situation was Moon Hyuk Joo. There was no one else to lean on.

What would he say if she requested a divorce and the downfall of her own father?
He despised her father, Oh Joo Hwan, more than anyone else.
He had reluctantly placed his fatherinlaw as the president of a subsidiary, but Hyuk Joo kept tabs on his every move. And he didn’t particularly hide such situations from Eun Soo.
You need to know what misdeeds your father is committing.
As if to enlighten her, Hyuk Joo often received calls from his secretary, Director Song, in front of Eun Soo. Usually, those calls ended with Hyuk Joo’s directive to restrain at an appropriate level.
If she divorced him, Hyuk Joo would gain a justification to completely remove the thorn in his side, Oh Joo Hwan, from the Myung Jin Group.
Her father, who would lose his power, would be unable to take advantage of her mother.
“……Tell me I’ve thought this through well.”
Eun Soo muttered words meant for no listener and bit her lip tightly.
It was then. The sound of quick footsteps walking down the hallway beyond the quiet sickroom started to echo.

Thud, thud.
At the rough sound of footsteps, Eun Soo fixed her gaze on the door of the sickroom. Soon, the door opened, and Hyuk Joo entered.
He didn’t even knock, as if he knew she was here.
His hair, which was always neatly combed, was surprisingly disheveled. A blue vein bulged prominently on his smooth forehead.
Only then did Eun Soo realize that she had been missing for the past few hours.
She remembered her cell phone ringing a few times. Judging by the lack of sound afterward, it seemed the battery had died.
Eun Soo looked at Hyuk Joo, who was standing in front of her. He let out a deep, heavy sigh and asked.
“Why are you doing this?”
“……”
“Oh Eun Soo!”

Anger was laced in Hyuk Joo’s voice as he called her name.
It seemed like he might even raise his voice more.
“Why are you acting like this, these days?”
Annoyance tinged his repeated question. Eun Soo furrowed her brow slightly.
“Why are you acting so unlike yourself, Oh Eun Soo!”
Something was going wrong.
As he watched Eun Soo’s face, the thought suddenly struck Hyuk Joo.
He had eaten dinner earlier than usual that day to work overtime. However, as soon as he entered the office, Director Song rushed up to him, saying that his motherinlaw wasn’t answering the phone.
She must be at the hospital.
Hyuk Joo answered carelessly. Eun Soo had a habit of muting her phone when she was at the hospital. So, when Eun Soo didn’t answer the phone, he guessed she was at the hospital.

‘She’s not at the hospital.’
Like a child who confidently wrote the correct answer but was told it was wrong, Hyuk Joo was momentarily shocked.
The possibility of Eun Soo being somewhere other than the hospital was slim. She always moved according to a set schedule.
The schedule, as it were, mostly involved moving between home and the hospital, with a few formal events that she occasionally participated in.
Any unusual activities were reported to Hyuk Joo through the secretary’s office.
This wasn’t because Hyuk Joo had specifically ordered it, but rather a practice that had been carried out for a long time to prevent the owners’ family from deviating. Hyuk Joo himself had been managed in such a way since he was young.
When he heard that Eun Soo was not at the hospital, Hyuk Joo recalled that he hadn’t received any report about her schedule for the day.
In his haste, he called Eun Soo, but her phone was turned off.
That’s when it started.
Hyuk Joo, as if driven mad, went looking for her at the hospital, the gallery, and even the cafe she often visited.

He had even gone as far as visiting Seo Yeon Ji’s shop, making a fool of himself. But Eun Soo was nowhere to be found.
He thought maybe she had gone to the villa in Gangwon Province she had mentioned before, and was just about to enter the highway when Hwang In Woo called.
Eun Soo was in her hospital room.
He quickly exited the highway. Ignoring the loud alarm for speeding, Hyuk Joo hurried to the hospital.
He thought he would calm down once he saw Eun Soo’s face.
Fortunately, she was in her hospital room.
He had intended to ask her where she had been and why she hadn’t been in contact when he saw her face. But he lost his temper in the turbulence of emotion.
Why are you acting so unlike yourself?
Even as he asked, Hyuk Joo chided himself.
That wasn’t a question to throw at Eun Soo, but one he should have asked himself. So, after speaking, he felt a lump in his throat and swallowed dryly.

“You think I’m acting strange?”
Eun Soo asked, scrunching up her face. She even let out a hollow laugh.
“It’s just been a day. No, not even a day. Just a few hours… Didn’t you think that I might have had something going on that prevented me from contacting you?”
“……”
“Instead of accusing me of acting strangely, you should be worried about what might have happened to cause the lack of contact. That’s the obvious thing to do.”
Eun Soo stared intently at Hyuk Joo’s face, which was looking at her. It seemed as if he was holding back something he wanted to say, his Adam’s apple moving up and down. In the ensuing silence, Eun Soo clenched her forehead with her hand.
Worry between us.
She had hoped for too much.
Hyuk Joo was someone who could not feel any emotion towards her. Hoping for something like worry from him was absurd.
“Why did you ask if I was acting strangely?”

Eun Soo said, looking straight into his eyes.
“I was acting that way because I decided to break up with you.”
“……”
Hyuk Joo’s face distorted.
Like someone who had heard something they shouldn’t have, his face was tinged with confusion.
“I want to stop.”
“……”
“Let’s stop. Now.”
Like a man who had lost the ability to speak, Hyuk Joo just stared at Eun Soo for a while.
Eun Soo, looking at Hyuk Joo’s face looking at her, lowered her gaze. His tall face felt too high, making her feel dizzy.

She felt nauseous.
She wanted to go to the bathroom immediately and vomit everything out. As she covered her mouth with her hand, Hyuk Joo’s phone rang.
Hyuk Joo took out his phone from his pocket.
The number saved as ‘Seo Yeon Ji’ was reflected on the screen. She stopped him as he was about to put his phone back in his pocket.
“Answer the call.”
“……”
“It might be an urgent call.”
Why would she tell him to answer Seo Yeon Ji’s call?
After dropping the bombshell of a breakup and then suddenly showing concern for Hyuk Joo and his woman, Eun Soo was at a loss with her own behavior.
Because they had a child.
ads
Just like her, Seo Yeon Ji did too.
Eun Soo quietly watched Hyuk Joo take the call in front of her. Because they were standing so close, it felt as if the three of them were together, and the sound of the conversation was clearly audible.
— Brother, I’m at the emergency room now.
“Why?”
— I suddenly felt dizzy. They say I have to get a checkup now.
“……”
Eun Soo slowly lifted her gaze. Then, as if nothing had happened, she smiled like the old Eun Soo who had guarded the place of Moon Hyuk Joo’s wife.
Go. She moved her lips silently.

When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
One-line summary: She is his lifelong obsession, to the point where he was willing to be a third wheel, scorned by society, just to wedge his way into her relationship with her fiancé.
