I looked down at young Johan and whispered cautiously.

“Johan. Just wait a little longer. I’ll be right back.”

It felt strangely like abandoning him alone, leaving my heart tangled.

I slipped out of the prison and ran toward where the guards had gone.

‘I don’t know when this dream will end.’

I had a feeling there might be a time limit. If I dawdled, I’d wake up without accomplishing anything.

“Everyone saw what I did, right? We guards must set aside money separately like this. Since we might come back from Libertan again, watch carefully. Take the money, and also record that you received it—just in case. This way, there won’t be any trouble later.”

There was one room unusually noisy.

‘Found it! The warden’s room!’

It was much larger than the guards’ break room I’d just passed, clearly well-decorated. Around a man seated on an elegant chair in the center, guards were drinking and flattering him.

“Of course, Warden, you’re different. Even though you’re nobility, you take such good care of us guards and even give us such valuable advice. Without you, we wouldn’t know what to do.”

“Ahem. Though I was born into the Penula baronial family, I’m now part of the royal household, aren’t I? I’m definitely different from other nobles.”

They must have been drinking for quite a while; even just entering the room, the stench of alcohol was overwhelming.

‘Thanks for being so lazily idle during work hours.’

Of course, the guards couldn’t see me, but they might feel a strange unease, just like young Johan did moments ago.
