“Estelle. Because it’s me, I handed you over despite hearing the lie that you were being abused in Libertan. Others would be different.”
Miryu’s voice, after a long time, was gentle, just like when I first met her.
‘And what’s this disgusting thing? Ugh, you understand what I’m talking about, right?’
If Miryu hadn’t hit my cheek and left in the end, if she hadn’t gotten upset that I was emotionally tormenting her, thinking it was nothing.
‘Do you think you’re special?’
‘Wake up; you’re only lucky to be adopted into Libertan and living well. I feel pathetic for dealing with someone like you.’
I would have believed that statement my entire life.
‘Now you know.’
From the beginning, Miryu never considered me a friend. She hated me and wanted to torment me. She was no different from the Libertan couple who abused me.
‘It was difficult to admit even this fact before realizing the original work.’
Fortunately, looking at the sleeping Miryu’s face didn’t evoke any feelings.
‘Anyway, is there any connection between having seen my scar and lying about a scar?’
Honestly, even though there was no connection, it was difficult to simply overlook the lies Miryu had been spreading.
Johann, sensing my state, put his arm around my shoulder.
“Estelle, let’s go home now.”
While I was turning with Johann’s escort,
“[Dash]Lady Estelle.”
Leandro called me sadly.
“Even if the author whispers like a devil, you shouldn’t overlook it.”
Johann tried to take me away, blocking my ears so I couldn’t hear Leandro. However, I lowered Johann’s hand and smiled provocatively.
“Just a moment.”
Johann frowned, but I turned to face Leandro.
“No matter how much time has passed, you can’t completely erase the sins you committed. But people can change anytime. Of course, it starts with repentance.”
A strange affection rose in Leandro’s blue eyes as we met again.
“Felcis Kyeong, unfortunately, I have done nothing wrong. You can’t apologize for a non-existent sin, can you?”
“If you don’t know, let me tell you. I will lead you on the right path for you to change. Even if you don’t want to, I’ll teach you.”
As expected.
“No. Please don’t teach me.”
I raised the corner of my mouth.
“Do as the proud knight of the White Night would.”
“What are you talking about?”
“If you think I’m a sinner, do it according to imperial law. Dig into my past, organize the sins, and present them at the trial for execution.”
Leandro, the male protagonist of the original work.
‘A knight of unchanging justice in changing situations.’
‘An imperial sword with a noble heart.’
In reality, the only person who tried to save me from suffering in the original work was Leandro. Seeing that, Leandro was indeed a noble savior.
“Don’t annoy someone who pretends to give a chance but just stands still.”
However, he was just an honorable man’s savior.
Leandro wasn’t important to me. Regardless of who was in my place, Leandro would have acted the same and demanded the same repentance.
That’s why Leandro may not have even considered my situation.
“But remember this.”
Beyond Leandro, I looked at Diana and said. Diana, holding Miryu, was staring blankly at me.
“Just because you don’t believe doesn’t make a lie the truth.”
Diana shuddered with surprise. Her pupils shook with confusion.
“The truth doesn’t exist as you think.”
“…….”
“Ah, is it too difficult for someone who asked even those who didn’t commit a sin to repent?”
Even as I got on the carriage with Johann, I couldn’t control my cheerful mood.
It wasn’t intentional, but it seemed like I was too excited without realizing it. When I chuckled while looking out the window, Johann smirked.
“Are you that happy?”
I awkwardly fiddled with my hair, trying not to show my happiness too openly.
“Did I give it away too much?”
“It’s only visible to my eyes.”
Johann brushed my bangs slightly and looked into my eyes.
“We should continue to challenge each other to duels frequently.”
“Why?”
“Because I can keep seeing your happy face. Do you have someone you dislike?”
“If someone hears that, they might think I hate everyone[Dash].”
But suddenly, such a thought came to me.
‘Can Johann defeat Leandro in a duel?’
Johann is a very intelligent person. If it was an impossible fight, he wouldn’t have applied for the duel in the first place.
‘But Leandro is the Empire’s First Sword.’
Last time, Johann could overwhelm Leandro because he used magic.
‘…And that protective magic might have disappeared.’
Seeing my worried expression, Johann put his arm around my shoulder and asked.
“Why the worried look?”
“Oh, last time, I said the protective magic was broken. My body’s not in good condition either.”
I hesitated in my words.
“Is it okay for you to duel with Leandro?”
“I can’t beat that guy alone, can I?”
“That might not be true, but I’m worried you might get hurt.”
The carriage moved with a clunk. Sunlight streamed in diagonally through the carriage window.
“Don’t worry; my body is perfectly fine.”
“Really? Still[Dash]”
But my worry didn’t disappear.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
