“This trial shall discuss the lawsuit filed by the plaintiff, Viscountess Fisher, against the defendant, Marchioness Crayton, regarding the inheritance rights to the Crayton title. Plaintiff, please give your testimony first.”

At the judge’s opening words, everyone’s eyes turned toward Margaret.

Standing beside her was her lawyer, a man quite well-known in the capital.

“Before I begin my testimony, I shall refer to Marquess Bake Crayton—as the Late Marquess Crayton. The Late Marquess Crayton—”

“I object! His Lordship’s body has yet to be recovered, and thus no funeral has taken place. Referring to him as ‘Late’ is inappropriate.”

“Objection granted. Plaintiff, please rephrase your statement.”

It seemed the judge still hadn’t decided whose side to favor.

Knowing this, Margaret’s lawyer simply nodded calmly instead of showing displeasure, and opened his mouth again.

“With Marquess Crayton absent, Crayton is currently in a highly unstable state. Particularly since there is no proper heir, many are growing anxious. Isn’t that correct?”

“Yes, that’s correct.”

“In such uncertain times, have you never considered that efforts must be made to calm this unrest?”

“I simply believed in my husband’s return.”

“Were you perhaps hoping to avoid the crisis by hiding behind that belief?”

His gaze was clearly loaded with intent. Yet I remained expressionless, calmly meeting the lawyer’s eyes.

Margaret likely intended to brand me as an incompetent leader, but I had already decided exactly how I would present myself in today’s trial.
