Yet I didn’t loosen my arm around his neck. Just moments ago, I’d realized—if his contorted expression truly meant disgust, I wouldn’t have been able to lay a finger on him from the start.

Right. What’s so special about this worthless body anyway? If he wants it, I’ll gladly give it all away—let him kill me, spare me, or do something far worse. I don’t care.

With determination I couldn’t name—courage or stubbornness—I tightened my grip. He was on top, but I held the upper hand.

But that was mere arrogance.

His face, drawing closer, stopped right before mine.
