An involuntary breath escaped through my teeth. I knew my death would shock him deeply—it was precisely because I understood this that I’d clung stubbornly to my plan. And yet, here I was, entertaining these feelings now. How absurd.

But imagining something and seeing it with your own eyes were entirely different. If only he’d let his emotions fully surface, it might have been easier. Instead, he kept everything tightly suppressed, not shedding a single tear—or perhaps, unable to.

Hesitantly, I slowly reached out my hand.

It was the barest touch—merely the tip of my index finger grazing the back of his hand. Compared to the impulsive act I’d just committed, this gesture was laughably insignificant.

Yet it had taken me a long while to gather the courage for even this small action.
