The next day, Raven woke up to the sound of someone banging on the door.
‘What time is it?’
Bright sunlight was pouring in through the small window.
No matter how late he fell asleep, he always woke up by dawn.
It had been a long time since he’d overslept like this.
“Raven! The sun is already high in the sky. Get up now.”
The owner of the pleasant voice was the soldier who had come to pick him up for dinner the other evening.
As the violent knocking didn’t cease, Raven groaned and got out of bed.
“Are you planning to break the door? A light knock would suffice, you have no manners.”
“No one’s watching, what’s the need for manners. Get dressed. Sione called for you.”
“…Sione?”
“Yes. Seems like there’s some important business.”
Raven thought about a few reasons why she might have business with him.
And soon, he realized that Elga’s visit to Rose Palace was closely related to him.
Had they cleared up yesterday’s misunderstandings just to get down to business?
“Just wait a moment. I’ll be ready soon.”
“Poor thing, called away without even having breakfast. I’ll tell the kitchen to prepare your meal right after you’re done!”
He looked at the soldier, who spoke with a genuine smile on his face.
Not many people lived in Rose Palace, and among them, some seemed to pity young Raven for being dragged from a distant kingdom.
This soldier was particularly friendly towards him.
He’d prattle on, whether asked or not, about having a sibling back home, which was rather annoying.
“What did Sione do to overthrow the poison chamberlain? What did she say to you?”
“I’d appreciate it if you’d mind your own business.”
“You’re so cold. You could tell me a little.”
What’s so fine about that?
Clearly, he was under the illusion that because he had a particular interest in me, I should reciprocate.
Ignoring the soldier’s words, Raven walked out.
Though the soldier grumbled from behind, asking where he was going, he paid it no mind.
“Hey! Wait! Let’s go together!”
Either giving up on getting a meaningful response, the soldier led Raven to his destination with idle jokes.
Shortly after, the two arrived in front of a building located on the outskirts of the palace.
On the roof of the building, which the soldier described as an annex, was a rough chimney that was incongruous with the neat exterior.
‘What’s that smoke?’
Black smoke was billowing out of the chimney, contrasting sharply with the bright scenery of Rose Palace.
‘Is someone cooking?’
If so, that person had no talent for cooking whatsoever.
The pungent smell enveloping the building was far from appetizing.
“That building houses Sione’s laboratory. The lights were on all night, so it seems she’s been working on something without sleep.”
“All night… you say?”
“Yes. The soldier who relieved me confirmed it.”
Do vampires not need sleep?
If she had headed to the lab right after parting ways with him yesterday, that meant she had been up all night, according to the soldier.
Ignoring the soldier’s comment to definitely visit the dining hall later, Raven headed toward the laboratory door.
From inside, he could hear the voices of two people engaged in what sounded like a conversation.
He couldn’t make out the details, but their exchange seemed quite heated, as if they were having an argument.
“I’m coming in.”
Upon entering the lab after raising his voice deliberately, he saw Sione and Elga, who were engrossed in an intense discussion.
The spacious room was filled with all sorts of bizarre objects, the most prominent of which was a large pot in the center, bubbling as it boiled.
Judging by the vent above the hearth, the black smoke seen outside the building seemed to be from that pot.
“Ah, it’s you, Raven. When did you arrive? I was so engrossed in arguing with my apprentice that I didn’t notice you.”
Elga, realizing Raven’s presence only now, asked with a somewhat awkward expression.
He lightly fanned away the pungent smoke filling the room as he spoke.
“I just got here. What is this place, though? It looks a bit odd to my eyes.”
“This is my magic laboratory. Haven’t used it much since Bella woke up, but I’ve recently started working here again.”
Sensing that what Sione was saying was related to what Elga had asked for his help with, he narrowed his eyes.
He had decided to help them, but facing a lab with an unidentified boiling pot brought back suppressed doubts.
“Just by looking at your eyes, I can roughly guess what you’re thinking, kid. We’re not witches out to eat you or anything. Those are all for magical research.”
Observing the tense Raven, Elga chuckled as he spoke, to which he furrowed his brows in reply.
“I hadn’t thought that far, but it’s true I’m wondering how much I should trust you.”
“Thanks for being honest. But as I said before, I have no intention of harming you.”
“I’m not saying I can’t trust you at all. But the place doesn’t look all that trustworthy, does it?”
“True. Tsk tsk. My apprentice is rather careless, you know.”
Elga shot a disapproving look at Sione, who dodged eye contact and pretended not to hear.
My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband
This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.
The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.
They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.
In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.
When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.
She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.
Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!
Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
Notes:
1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.
2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
