When Zen visited the Earl’s mansion painted by Kevrant, Kev and Lisi were not at home due to a gold mine issue.
In the drawing room, Zen looked at each of Eugene, Nathan, Wallace, and Jamie, and then opened his mouth.
“Lion, leopard, eagle, deer.”
At Zen’s call, the men whom Kev called his shadows twitched their shoulders.
Kev’s shadows were also Kev’s kindred, and Kev’s family knew their identities.
When Zen was angry, he used to call them by the animals they transformed into, not their names.
Quickwitted Jamie opened his mouth.
“Zen. I’m in the same situation as you.”
“……What?”
“I also found out much later that the boss got married, even submitted a marriage contract to the office on the way back from the Duke of Wittle’s house.”

Zen’s eyes, which were looking at Jamie, turned to Eugene.
Eugene, who knew how terrifying Zen could be when he was angry, moved his lips to protest differently than usual.
“I don’t know anything about that.”
“That’s right, I know nothing at all!”
Nathan quickly intervened.
“I was just riding a horse, and the boss suddenly called me.”
I’m getting married and there’s something you guys need to do.
Nathan imitated Kev’s expression and tone, but Zen didn’t laugh.
“I don’t know why the boss suddenly wanted to get married… what should we do? How do we stop that stubborn guy?”
While Nathan was protesting, Wallace was nodding his head as if it would fall off.

Zen, who stood in front of them, listened to their stories with arms crossed, without any change in expression.
At such times, anyone could tell that Zen resembled Kev enough to know he was Kev’s brother.
“Anyway, we don’t know anything, Zen. Where the boss met your sisterinlaw, what kind of relationship they have… we don’t know anything. We don’t even know why he suddenly decided to get married. Oh, I know why he wanted to get married. Isn’t our sisterinlaw really pretty to the point of surprise?”
When Wallace talked as if bragging about his younger sister, one of Zen’s eyebrows slightly went up.
Jamie, who noticed Zen’s mood, jabbed Wallace’s side, but Wallace kept talking.
“You’d be surprised, too? Oh, you’ve heard of it, too? The flower of the Duke of Wittle’s house. Really like a flower.”
“Like a flower……”
Zen mumbled.
It sounded like a curse.
“Yeah, really. After all, the boss is a man, so wouldn’t he have fallen for our sisterinlaw because she’s too pretty? Huh? Zen, why the face? Oh, are you upset because I said someone else is pretty? You’re pretty too, pretty.”

All of the subordinates except Wallace let out a small sigh.
What should they do about that insensitive kid?
“I don’t care whether the woman who married my brother is the flower of the Duke of Wittle’s house or shit.”
When Zen spoke coldly, Wallace finally shut his mouth.
“What surprises me. Among us, there was not a single person who thought that we should let our family know about our brother’s marriage.”

Lisi and Kev were riding in a carriage headed somewhere.
Kev sat across from Lisi and silently stared out the window.
His slightly messy black hair and the line of his nose and lips underneath were perfect like a painting.
A breeze blew Kev’s hair.

As if annoyed, Kev flipped his hair back and noticed that Lisi was watching him.
“Why are you looking at me like that, Lisi?”
“You didn’t have to come with me. You’re busy.”
“I can’t leave my wife alone when she’s going far away.”
“Wallace said he would go with Nathan.”
“I am stronger than those guys, Lisi.”
“I know that. But I feel uncomfortable because I think I made you leave your place for no reason.”
“I don’t know well because it’s my first time getting married, but normally, when a wife goes on a journey and her husband accompanies her, does the wife think she’s bothering her husband?”
“……Maybe not?”
“Then it’s okay, Lisi. Whatever the reason, we are a couple. By the way, have I told you that your dress is splendid?”

Lisi was dressed like a man.
Skinny black pants that highlighted her slender legs, a deep brown shirt, and a perfectly fitting vest.
Her long hair was tightly tied back, and she wore a black fedora.
At first glance, she looked like a slender man.
“You’re telling me for the first time today.”
“You’re splendid, Lisi. How did you think to order such clothes? It’s not a common dress for ladies.”
“I don’t want to stand out when I’m walking outside. I don’t like my affairs spreading here and there.”
“In that case, you’ve failed, Lisi.”
Kevrant lifted Iris’s fingertip.
He gently pressed his lips to the knuckle of Iris’s finger. Startled by the warm and soft touch as if being branded, Iris flinched.

Gazing up at Iris, Kevrant kissed each knuckle of Iris’s fingers and suddenly pulled her closer.
Unable to resist his strength, Iris was dragged along and sat on his lap as if being embraced.
Kevrant kissed the inside of Iris’s wrist and slid his hand inside her leather vest, stroking her back.
The heat that was transmitted over her thin shirt flowed down her spine.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
