What Krishina had been worried about did not happen.

Mary remained kind and courteous throughout. She joyfully greeted the people of the Perni and Lutec families, enthusiastically exchanging various pieces of knowledge related to art.

She didn’t even utter a single veiled insult about Lisi. Looking at Mary’s flushed, rosy cheeks, she genuinely seemed delighted to meet them.

Krishina and Erwell had been stuck with Mary for about two hours.

“Oh dear. Look at me—how absentminded! I really should take my leave now, shouldn’t I? The Countess must be waiting for me quite a while. Since she didn’t come even though I asked her to, I suppose I’m still making her uncomfortable.”

Krishina remained silent, unsure how to respond to that. She had worried Erwell might retort, but surprisingly, Erwell stayed quiet too.

“Please convey my apologies for inviting you so suddenly like this. Oh, and also tell her that I’d love to have more chances like this to talk with you all about paintings sometime.”

“Yes, I will.”

Krishina and Erwell walked silently down the hallway. Only after descending the stairs toward the second floor, where Lisi’s room was, did Krishina finally speak.

“El, why were you so quiet?”

“You’re usually the one telling me to shut up and not even breathe—so why? Feeling guilty all of a sudden?”

“It’s not that. I just thought you wouldn’t stay quiet, given your personality.”

“Well, what choice do I have? If I offend Princess Minasarik and cause trouble for House Green, my father will kill me.”

“Well, it’s a relief to know you can think that far ahead.”

“You complain even when I do something right.”
