Gloven’s face burned with heat.

Curien covered the corner of his mouth with one hand, his expression dripping with disdain.

Gloven was so furious with Britney that, had she been standing beside him, he would have slapped her across the cheek. He had warned her repeatedly not to act so recklessly!

Feeling compelled to offer some excuse, Gloven began to stammer nervously.

“We had an agreement, didn’t we? Given that His Highness the Crown Prince was obviously supposed to ask our Britney for a dance but didn’t, isn’t it understandable that Britney grew anxious and acted as she did?”

“That’s precisely the problem, Your Grace. I believed the rumors that Miss Britney was mature and composed. But to visibly display such impatience… can she truly endure the demanding and prestigious position of Crown Princess…?”

Gloven suddenly realized he’d made a blunder—the conversation was spiraling badly.

“I didn’t take your money for nothing! You must deliver what my money paid for!”

“Oh dear, Your Grace, you mustn’t say such things. As I’ve told you several times already—the funds you provided were entirely meant to prepare Miss Britney to become Crown Princess. Not a single coin was spent for my personal use.”

Gloven knew this wasn’t true but chose not to call him out.

Curien was the only person he could trust to make Britney Crown Princess. If their alliance broke now, all his efforts thus far would be for nothing.
