Lisi turned her head back toward the tail. Burying her face in that fluffy tail looked like it would feel wonderful. She gently grabbed the tail and rubbed her cheek against it, prompting the wolf to let out a low “krrr…” and twitch his body.
She hadn’t meant to wake him.
Lisi quickly pulled her hand away from the tail. The hind leg near the tail seemed to squirm, and then the wolf rolled over with a full-body twist.
Lisi sat up and looked down at him.
The black wolf, who usually appeared threatening when awake, now lay on his back, all four paws raised in the air—a sight so endearing it made her want to laugh.
‘You sleep well.’
His two large front paws wiggled slightly.
Was he dreaming of running across a plain?
Those massive front paws, normally intimidating, now moved up and down in a steady, rhythmic motion—unbearably cute.
Lisi watched the dreaming wolf, losing all sense of time.
Suddenly, as if attacked in his dream, the wolf let out a soft “krrng… krrng…” then barked sharply—“Kang!”—and opened his eyes.
His deep, black eyes wandered the air briefly before settling on Lisi.
“Lisi.”
Kai’s voice as a wolf sounded more solemn than when he was human.
But what good was solemnity now?
She’d already seen everything—him sleeping on his back, wiggling his paws, and grumbling in his sleep.
“Why is my wife smiling so mockingly this early in the morning?”
“Mocking? Not at all, Kai. It’s just… um… a smile.”
“That doesn’t seem right.”

The wolf licked the corner of Lisi’s mouth.
“Did I talk in my sleep, Lisi?”
“No. You slept quietly.”
If she mentioned his grumbling and paw-wiggling, he probably wouldn’t sleep beside her again in wolf form.

Kai narrowed his eyes skeptically at Lisi for a moment, then leaped off the bed.

Soon, Kai’s human voice sounded right behind her ear.
“Lisi, why are you turning your head away?”
“Just put your clothes on quickly.”
“You’ve already seen it, yet you act so shy now.”
“I haven’t seen anything. I was too startled to look properly.”
“Liar. I saw your shocked eyes myself.”
“Just get dressed already, Kai.”
At Lisi’s reproachful tone, Kai chuckled.
A rustling sound of clothing followed.
“Lisi, come somewhere with me today.”
“Where?”
“You’ll see when we get there.”
Unaware that Kai had spent the previous night discussing “what women like” with his subordinates until dawn, Lisi wondered why her usually busy husband was suddenly insisting on going out somewhere.
The rustling ceased, meaning he’d finished dressing, yet Lisi kept her head turned away.
She heard Kai approaching the bed, then felt his fingertips touch her back.
His fingers traced down her spine, clearly perceptible through the thin slip she wore.
“Not such a revealing outfit.”
His index finger paused briefly near her tailbone before lifting away.
“Wear commoner’s clothing. I want us to move around comfortably.”
