The Beast Swallowed by the Flower (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 35
Britney looked around the dining room, frozen in place.
Just moments ago, a Green household servant had come to ask about lunch arrangements. Unaware that Kai had returned, Britney naturally assumed Lisi would be eating breakfast alone.
Though the Duke and Duchess Wittelo had said they’d eat in their room, Britney had insisted on coming to the main house’s dining room. She had something she wanted to say to Lisi in private.
But Lisi wasn’t alone in the dining room.
Wallace and Nathan, as well as Zen and Nella.
“Britney.”
At Lisi’s call, Britney snapped out of her daze.
Seeing Lisi’s smile, anger surged within her.
‘Look at this, Britney. Jereshien and Nellanikus—the very people you find so intimidating—are getting along so intimately with me. Aren’t you jealous? You’ve always wanted to befriend them, yet you’ve never even managed a proper conversation.’
It felt as though Lisi were saying exactly that.
‘You insignificant thing!’
She wanted to grab Lisi by the hair again like before and scold her fiercely for daring to smile that way. She wanted to teach that insolent Lisi a lesson for overstepping her place.
But Britney still had enough sense not to lose her temper in front of Zen and Nella.
“Yeah, Lisi.”
She smiled sweetly, using the pet name she rarely called her by.
Like a loving older sister who adored her younger sibling.
“I came here because I wanted to have breakfast together—was it a bad time? Am I intruding?”
“Not at all. Let me introduce you. This is Countess Nellanikus Janel, and this is Jereshien Green, my husband’s younger sister. Oh, you’ve probably met them before—you used to attend parties so often.”
Of course she’d seen them. The problem was she’d never actually spoken to them.
Britney wanted to clamp a hand over Lisi’s mouth before she could say anything else foolish.
Nella and Zen merely gave slight nods but didn’t introduce themselves or offer greetings.
“Come to think of it, you said you’re incredibly popular whenever you go to parties. You know as many people as Nella does, and everyone wants to get close to you. So you must be friends with Nella too, right?”
Britney clenched her jaw and glared at Lisi.
Stop saying useless things!
“I never knew I had such a friend.”
Nella retorted coldly.
Hearing that unmistakable rejection and mockery, Britney’s face flushed red.
“Oh… hahaha… When did I ever say that? You’re exaggerating again. You all seem busy—I’ll just go.”
Britney didn’t have the courage to sit down and eat calmly here. Nor did she have the strength to face the changed Lisi.
Lisi, surrounded by Nella and Zen, looked nothing like the Lisi she remembered—her eyes, posture, tone, and actions were all different. She seemed like someone else wearing Lisi’s skin.
As Britney turned to leave, Lisi spoke.
“Where are you going? You said you came to eat together—sit down.”
Her voice was gentle but commanding.
Britney tightened her fists and forced a smile.
“No, you must be busy with wedding preparations. It was thoughtless of me to come all the way here… I let my longing to see my little sister cloud my judgment.”
“You don’t need to think about it. Sit there and stare at my face as much as you like.”
An elegant smile spread across Lisi’s lips.
Britney struggled to suppress her ragged breathing fueled by fury. If she left now after Lisi said that, she’d look like a defeated dog. Who knew what Lisi would say about her once she was gone?
Reluctantly, she sat in the seat Lisi had indicated—right beside her.
There were six people in the dining room: Lisi, Zen, Nella, Wallace, Nathan, and Britney.
They could have sat three on each side, but Zen and Nella had chosen to sit beside Wallace and Nathan instead.
It looked as though the Green household was observing the two Wittelo daughters.
Britney found it hard to hold her head up.
‘They’re definitely comparing my face to Iris’s.’
She’d endured this since childhood. She knew the nannies and maids often whispered behind her back, “Still, in terms of looks, Miss Britney can’t hold a candle to Iris.”
‘Which is why Lapord too… No, I shouldn’t think about Lapord anymore.’
Britney picked up the fork before her and decided to focus solely on eating.
Lisi should demonstrate the true dignity of a genuine noble daughter of the Wittelo Dukedom—something she herself could never possess.
‘Lisi, ever since you married Count Green, you’ve grown ridiculously arrogant—but soon enough, everyone will see just how lowly your bloodline really is.’
Lisi’s arrogance wouldn’t last. Kai was surely just momentarily dazzled by Lisi’s appearance and would grow tired of her within a year of living together.

Lisi chatted cheerfully with Zen and Nella over breakfast. Wallace and Nathan occasionally joined the conversation, their tones clearly respectful toward Lisi.
At the sound of Lisi’s light laughter—”Kkareul”—Britney’s barely suppressed irritation flared up again.
‘That’s not your place, Iris! It was meant to be mine!’
Britney believed that if not for Iris, she herself would have married Kai.
Kai surely desired the prestige of the Wittelo Dukedom, and only the trueborn noble daughter—Britney—could offer him that renown.
‘Count Green must have chosen Lisi purely by accident, unaware that her bloodline is so base. He was probably just curious about the famed “flower of the Wittelo Dukedom” everyone talks about.’
No matter how Britney thought about it, it seemed Lisi had stolen her rightful place.
“Britney.”
At Lisi’s call, Britney snapped out of her thoughts.
“You’re awfully quiet. Uncomfortable?”
Her tone sounded concerned, but her eyes said otherwise.
“No, of course not. If I start talking, it won’t be good for you, will it?”
Britney spoke with a warning edge.
But it wasn’t Britney who responded—it was Zen.
“Why would it be bad for my new sister-in-law if you spoke, Miss Britney? I thought you were a caring older sister—do you perhaps hold some weakness of hers over her head?”
Britney instantly regretted her words. Her frustration had made her say something she shouldn’t have.
Cold stares from Zen, Nella, Wallace, and Nathan pierced into her. Their eyes seemed to say, “Go ahead—say something about our Iris.”
She realized that no matter what she said about Lisi here, no one would take her side.
“No, I was just… joking.”
“I see. Not very funny, though.”
Britney had never felt so humiliated in her life.
Zen and Nella returned to their affectionate demeanor, discussing wedding dress styles with Lisi.
‘That should have been my place!’
Being called “new sister-in-law” by Zen, receiving dress advice from Nella, and earning respect from the revered knights Wallace and Nathan—
Everything should have been hers.
‘Iris, you’ve stolen from me again! You always do!’
Britney swallowed the tears welling up from rage and glared at her half-finished plate.
‘Fine, you can have that wretched title of Countess Green. I’ll become Empress Dowager instead.’
Crown Prince Iovert of the Gaviazar Empire, for some reason, still hadn’t taken an Empress Dowager. A noblewoman from a good family was essential for a Crown Prince destined to become Emperor.
Most princes selected a suitable family to marry into and leveraged that family’s power to secure the position of Crown Prince well before turning twenty.
Iovert had relied solely on his exceptional talent and personal virtue until now, but lately his position had grown precarious, and he’d begun searching for a noblewoman to serve as Empress Dowager.
As far as Britney knew, the Wittelo Dukedom—a ducal house with relatively modest external influence—was among the families being considered.
‘Once I become Empress Dowager, I’ll make you all pay for this humiliation today—Jereshien and Nellanikus too.’

Just as breakfast was winding down, Kai entered the dining room.
Britney straightened her posture and composed her expression, but Kai didn’t even glance her way—he strode straight toward Lisi.
“Lisi.”
Kai bent down beside Lisi and kissed her cheek lightly.
At the sight, Britney’s face turned crimson.
“Finished eating?”
“Just about to wrap up. Aren’t you having breakfast?”
“I ate a sandwich while handling paperwork. Come out with me after you’re done.”
“Excuse me, older brother—we’re here too, you know?”
Zen waved her hand to catch Kai’s attention. Only then did he notice her and grinned.
“Zen, Countess Janel. My apologies. My wife shines so brightly I didn’t notice anyone else around.”
“Eek.”
Nella made a horrified face.
Zen, Wallace, and Nathan all looked as if they might be sick.
And Britney couldn’t believe what she was seeing.
‘Is he insane? Is this really Kaelbrant Green?’

He’d acted similarly during his last visit to the Dukedom when he proposed to Iris, but she’d assumed that was just an act to secure the marriage.
She’d been certain he’d be cold toward Iris now, especially after the scandal linking her to Viscount Fuchs.
“See? He’s always like this.”
Zen spoke with an air of exhaustion.
‘Always like this… So he really acts this way toward Iris all the time? Unbelievable.’
Kai was even treating Britney, who sat right beside Lisi, as if she didn’t exist.
‘Actually, maybe it’s better if he doesn’t notice me. That man isn’t the Count Green I know.’
Just then, Lisi pointed toward Britney and said,
“Kai, this is my older sister—Britney.”
“Oh.”
Despite Lisi’s deliberate introduction, Kai offered only that single syllable—no eye contact, not even a slight nod of acknowledgment.
His gaze lingered on Britney for the briefest moment, as if even that short time were a waste, before returning instantly to Lisi.
‘How can he be so utterly rude!’
Unconcerned with Britney’s feelings, Kai spoke only to Lisi.
“Lisi, hurry and finish eating. There’s somewhere I want to take you.”
“Where?”
“It’s a secret.”
“Hmm… then…”
Lisi glanced toward Zen and Nella.
Nella stared pointedly elsewhere, as if refusing to witness such a revolting display, while Zen waved her hands dismissively, clearly eager for them to leave.
Lisi stood up with a smile.
“I’ll go ahead.”
After Lisi left, Zen turned to Nella and said,
“See? Told you he’d be like that.”
“I never imagined Count Green could say such things… It’s horrifying.”
“Right? Sometimes it gives me goosebumps. They say the Captain can’t sit still during work—he’s always itching to run back to the Countess.”
Nathan chimed in.
Britney sat uncomfortably.
No one at the table paid her any attention. She wanted to leave but couldn’t just walk out abruptly—she was struggling to find a natural way to excuse herself.
She wanted to cry.
‘Why do I have to endure this? Iris, what exactly did you tell them about me? Why does everyone treat me like this?’
If only they’d confronted her directly—accused her of mistreating Lisi—she could have denied it fiercely and painted Lisi as a liar.
But they didn’t accuse her of anything at all.
Britney knew that indifference was far more terrifying than outright bullying.
Since this was her first time experiencing such treatment, she had no idea how to respond.
In the end, Britney could only escape that hellish dining room after Zen finally said, “Let’s get up now.”
Ex-husband Wants Reconciliation
One-line summary: Chasing the wife to the crematorium (making an effort to attract someone who has become indifferent), the female lead doesn’t look back, the second male lead takes the position.

Intro:
To repay the kindness of the older generation, Su Mu crossed into a female-dominated world and became a live-in daughter-in-law of the Yan family, single-handedly saving the Yan family from fire and water.
But her husband, Yan Jiyue, the eldest son of the Yan family, treated her with sarcasm and never showed her a good face.
It wasn’t until after Su Mu’s death that this pampered and arrogant young master shed a few fake tears and pretended to want to die for love.
This life’s kindness was enough. If there was a next life, she would definitely kick Yan Jiyue away.
Who knew that the heavens would be so kind as to allow her to be reborn, returning to the time when she had just married into the Yan family.
Su Mu glanced at the Yan eldest son, who still spoke coldly to her, and threw a divorce letter in front of him.
“Let’s divorce!”
***
Yan Jiyue never imagined that he would be reborn. He happily went to find Su Mu, wanting to make up for the mistakes he had made in his ignorant youth.
Wasn’t the reason the heavens allowed him to be reborn to let him reconcile with Su Mu?
But when he pushed open the door to Su Mu’s room, the person lying on the bed was another man.
Su Mu’s personal attendant, Xie Yi.
Yan Jiyue hated him so much that his teeth itched. In front of Su Mu, Xie Yi was a gentle and considerate whisperer of sweet nothings, but in reality, he was vicious-hearted and deliberately sabotaged their husband and wife relationship.
In the previous life, it was he who secretly hid in Su Mu’s coffin and committed suicide, stealing a step ahead of him to be buried with Su Mu.
Yan Jiyue’s eyes were filled with hatred as he cursed, “What kind of thing are you? Your background is lowly, what right do you have to occupy Su Mu?”
Xie Yi looked at the sleeping Su Mu and no longer pretended to be a whisperer of sweet nothings.
He proudly stuck out his belly, “I have the right because my belly is capable of giving the Wife-master a daughter.”
***
Yan Jiyue was consumed with jealousy. He spread rumors that Xie Yi had once been branded with the mark of a “harlot” on his chest.
But on the night Xie Yi cut off the flesh bearing that mark, Su Mu suddenly realized something was amiss.
“How did you know the exact moment I was poisoned? And why did you show up a month early?”
Xie Yi remained silent, blood from his wound soaking through his robes. His sapphire eyes brimmed with anguish – or was it just a flawless act?
Between a once-arrogant husband now seeking redemption, and a gentle soul willing to die for her – who truly held the darkest secrets? And could it be that Su Mu and Yan Jiyue weren’t the only ones given a second chance at life…?
