The Beast Swallowed by the Flower (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 30
Jamie came to see Lisi two days after Kai had left the mansion.
Lisi, who had gone to the unicorn stable since morning and gotten dirty with straw and mud, was just about to change her clothes.
Jamie, waiting outside her door, grinned slightly at the sight of Lisi’s clothes.
“Childcare isn’t easy, is it?”
“True enough. Though I wouldn’t even call it childcare—I haven’t been allowed to touch the child yet.”
“Don’t push yourself; it’s dangerous. Oh, by the way, you have visitors.”
“Visitors? For me?”
“The Wittelo ducal family.”
“Oh.”
It felt as though she’d been slapped on the back of the head.
Not because it was unexpected—but precisely because it happened exactly as she’d anticipated.
The moment the wedding invitations were ready, she’d sent one straight to Britney.
It seemed better to summon her early, crush her spirit beforehand, and ensure she couldn’t pull any last-minute stunts on the wedding day.
Yet, at the same time, she’d secretly hoped,
‘Maybe they’ll come when the wedding schedule aligns. Maybe they’ve already cut ties with me now that I’ve left home.’
Predictably, it was a futile hope.
“Where are they now?”
“They’re still at the main gate. Since you never invited them.”
Jamie answered calmly.
Regardless, the Wittelo ducal family was Lisi’s birth family.
Yet they were being left outside.
‘Come to think of it, it’s always been like this from the very beginning…’
There was a strangely sharp edge to Jamie’s tone as he announced their visit.
Perhaps Jamie knew exactly how she’d been treated in that household.
“What should I do, Lady Iris?”
Kai wasn’t at the mansion. The decision rested solely with Lisi.
“Tell them I’m terribly busy today and to come back tomorrow.”
Jamie gave a slight bow, as if he’d expected exactly that, then left the room.
As Lisi turned away with a sigh, she saw Krishina and Erwell standing there with puzzled expressions.
They seemed flustered by Lisi’s cold dismissal of her own family.
Lisi smiled gently and said,
“They weren’t good people.”
The confusion vanished from Krishina and Erwell’s faces. Instead, a vague but resolute determination settled into their eyes.
As Lisi walked back toward her room, she heard a quiet whisper.
“So… they’re the rotten bastards, then?”
It sounded like Erwell’s voice, but Lisi decided she must have misheard.

“What nonsense is this?”
Duke Gloven Wittelo’s eyes bulged in disbelief.
Being barred from even bringing their carriage onto the estate grounds and forced to wait outside had already boiled his blood—but he’d swallowed it.
But now, being told they should come back tomorrow because she was “busy”?
True, the wedding date on the invitation was still far off, so technically, as the mansion’s mistress, she could say that.
But Iris shouldn’t have dared—it was utterly unacceptable.
“Did Iris really say that?”
“Yes, Your Grace. The Countess said she’s far too occupied today to receive guests.”
Jamie replied with a faint, serene smile.
“That’s impossible! Did you clearly tell her it was us who came?”
Duchess Denise Wittelo snapped, her eyes blazing.
“I clearly conveyed that Duke and Duchess Wittelo, along with Miss Britney, have come to visit.”
“And she still said she was busy?”
Trending
“Yes, Your Grace.”
“That’s absurd! That girl would never do such a thing!”
“Is that so? Why not?”
“What…?”
“Our Lady Countess has become the mistress of House Green. Naturally, she has countless duties both public and private. Isn’t that reasonable?”
Jamie’s words were perfectly correct.
Lisi was no longer the daughter of Duke Wittelo—she was now the mistress of House Green.
But even so.
“I am her father! No matter how busy she is, is this truly how one treats family at the doorstep?”
“Perhaps it is, when guests arrive far ahead of the invited date without any prior notice.”
Jamie spoke evenly.
Gloven seethed with rage.
How dare a mere count’s servant—
But he couldn’t treat Jamie carelessly either. Gloven knew well enough about Jamie’s reputation as a knight of Changcheon.
“If Iris is busy, fine—we won’t insist on seeing her right away. At least give us a guest room for now.”
“That, too, is difficult, Your Grace. The guest rooms aren’t prepared.”
“How absurd! What mansion in its right mind doesn’t keep guest rooms ready?”
“As you know, Count Green, the sacred relic’s guardian, is exceptionally busy and rarely receives visitors. It’s only natural there’s no room prepared for unexpected arrivals, wouldn’t you agree?”
Gloven knew Jamie was lying, but he couldn’t call him out on it.
And he certainly wasn’t about to beg for a room that “didn’t exist.”
“Just tell Iris once more. If she knows we’re here, surely she’ll—”
“Enough.”
Gloven cut Denise off. She glared at him, bewildered.
“There are other places we can stay. Since Iris is busy today, we’ll come back tomorrow.”
“But dear, we can’t just sleep anywhere! And Iris—how dare she behave so rudely toward us…”
“Enough!”
Gloven didn’t want to discuss Iris within Jamie’s hearing. Denise, realizing her slip, fell silent.
The moment they boarded the carriage, Britney burst out,
“Dad, isn’t she insane? Saying she’s busy and refusing to let us in?”
“She must be mad! Ever since she left home, she’s forgotten her place entirely…”
Denise ground her teeth.
“Why didn’t we just walk in? Even if we came unannounced, we’re still guests—it’s utterly impolite to treat us like this!”
“Enough, Britney. And you too. Remember—Count Green is the sacred relic’s guardian.”
“Even so! We’re a ducal house!”
“Britney, don’t you dare say such things where others can hear.”
The Greens, guardians of the sacred relic for generations, versus the Wittelos, a ducal line in clear decline.
It was obvious which house held higher standing.
It wouldn’t do to fall out of Kai’s favor—but Iris’s rudeness was unforgivable.
“We’ll return tomorrow. I heard Count Green is away. Once we step foot inside that mansion…”
He’d thoroughly teach that girl some manners.

Gloven’s firm resolve to “teach Iris proper manners” couldn’t be carried out the next day either.
“The Countess isn’t feeling well today. Please come back tomorrow.”
Nor the day after.
“The Countess is busy today. Please come back tomorrow.”
Each time they were turned away at the gate, Gloven’s face grew redder and his voice louder.
Eventually, he even began jabbing his finger in accusation—but Jamie maintained the same faint, serene smile as on the first day.
After Jamie went back inside, the ducal family lingered outside the mansion for a long while, hurling insults, before finally leaving. Only then did Jamie head toward the greenhouse.
Lisi was picking a ripe apple beneath an apple tree.
“The Wittelo ducal family has left, Lady Iris.”

“I see.”
“They might actually leave the territory today.”
“They won’t. They’re too proud to accept defeat so easily. They won’t go home empty-handed—especially not after spreading rumors they couldn’t even set foot inside.”
Lisi spoke coldly.
Jamie found it fascinating how her entire demeanor shifted—so different from when she was with Kai or when discussing the Wittelo family.
“What excuse will we use to send them away tomorrow?”
Jamie asked.
“Any word from the Count yet?”
“No. It seems the place he went is so far that returning within a week is difficult…”
“What about Jereshien?”
“I received word that Zen will arrive in two or three days.”
“Then…”
Lisi plucked another apple, placed it in her basket, and fixed her gaze on Jamie.
“We must teach Duke Wittelo proper manners before Zen arrives, don’t you think?”
Jamie liked it when Lisi smiled like this.
A smile brimming with arrogance yet playful charm.
It was the very smile that made him understand why Kai, who’d shown zero interest in women before, had fallen so completely for her.
Jamie smiled back and gave a nod.
“By all means—teach them well.”

Britney was so furious she felt ready to explode.
They’d been turned away at the door three times already.
Even if their influence had waned, they were still the Wittelo ducal family.
It wasn’t a household any mere count could dare treat with such contempt.
Yet three times.
Even after coming in person and pleading, they hadn’t been allowed past the gate.
And all because of Lisi—not even because of Kai.
“This is absolutely ridiculous!”
On their fourth journey to Count Green’s mansion,
Britney screamed inside the carriage.
“No matter how much they claim to be sacred relic guardians, treating us like this is completely unacceptable!”
“Britney’s right, dear. We should formally protest this.”
“Yes! We’ll inform the Holy Nation… and speak directly to Count Green too! Iris is clearly acting on her own while the Count is away!”
“Don’t worry. If they turn us away again today, I’ll report House Green’s insolence not only to the Holy Nation but to His Imperial Majesty himself.”
Gloven never ended up visiting the Emperor of Gaviazar. Today, the gates opened obediently, and their carriage was permitted through the main entrance.
The moment Wittelo saw Iris, he resolved to slap her across the face.
But the chance never came.
“Please wait in the reception room for a moment.”
Clearly, it was meant to be “just a moment”—yet even after one hour, then two, Iris never appeared.
Exhausted from waiting, they called for Jamie, but he didn’t come. When they asked passing maids, the only reply was, “Please wait a little longer.”
Worse, not even a single cup of tea was offered.
Having arrived early in the morning, it was nearly sunset when Jamie finally returned.
Gloven shot to his feet.
“What in the world is this nonsense?”
“Huh? What do you mean?”
Jamie looked genuinely puzzled.
“You said ‘just a moment’! How many hours has it been? And not a single cup of tea or a bite to eat!”
“Oh—you’re hungry? Since your visit was unexpected, we didn’t prepare guest meals. My apologies.”
Jamie’s expression showed no hint of actual regret.
“You…!”

Gloven couldn’t restrain himself and strode threateningly toward Jamie—but Britney quickly stepped forward and gently placed a hand on his arm.
After giving Gloven a subtle glance, Britney turned to Jamie with an elegant smile.
“Did Iris order this?”
“Order what?”
“To treat our family so harshly.”
“Of course not. She instructed me to receive you with utmost respect.”
“Is this House Green’s idea of respectful treatment?”
“It depends on the guest.”
“The guest? Are you saying House Wittelo isn’t even worthy of a cup of tea?”
Britney asked calmly.
Jamie gave a gentle smile and replied exactly as Lisi had instructed:
“Considering what House Wittelo has done to our Countess, I’d say this treatment is already remarkably gracious.”
When scheming men desperately battle for her favor in the male harem

This one’s also on my reread list! The rivalry, scheming between the men in the imperial harem are just as intense and thrilling as in classic palace drama novels, where concubines fight to the death. Give it a read, girls! I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Synopsis:
