The Beast Swallowed by the Flower (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 13
The moment Kai turned his gaze away, Alford regained his senses.
Only then did shame wash over him—urinating in front of others.
But this wasn’t the time to worry about that.
The Lavent gold mine he’d intended to give to Duke Wittelo was, in truth, a mine about to be abandoned, as almost all the gold reserves had already been extracted.
Though such a worthless mine hardly mattered if given away, he absolutely refused to let Kai—the man who’d stolen “his Iris”—have it.
“This—this doesn’t mean… this doesn’t mean I’ll hand over my gold mine! I’ll formally protest this matter to His Holiness the Pope in the Holy Nation!”
Alford shouted with all the courage he could muster, then abruptly spun around.
He’d intended to flee right then and there—but couldn’t. Three masked men stood guarding the doorway, having entered at some unknown point.
Seeing them, Alford’s spine chilled as he recalled the assailants who’d ambushed his carriage days earlier on his way to Duke Wittelo’s estate.
“What—what do you think you’re doing? Step aside!”
Alford shouted, unable to bring himself closer to them.
They stared straight ahead, as if they couldn’t hear a word he said.
Alford wanted to turn and protest to Kai, but fear paralyzed him. For some reason, it felt as if a demon stood behind him, freezing him in place.
Black terror crept up his feet, slowly devouring Alford. He began to feel as though the place he stood was no longer of this world.
“D—do you really think… you’ll walk away unscathed after this, Count Green?”
Alford stammered, his legs trembling violently.
“No matter how much you threaten me… I’ll… I’ll make sure His Holiness the Pope hears of this. No—I’ll tell the reporters too!”
Once he started speaking, his fear lessened slightly. Only then could Alford finally turn to look at Kai.
“Your lordship forcibly took Iris, whom I’d promised to marry, and when I came here to protest, you locked me in a torture chamber and humiliated me. The mere existence of such a torture chamber in the residence of the devoted Guardian of the Sacred Relic would cause a massive scandal if revealed—and locking me in there and threatening me would be an even bigger problem.”
Kai smirked. The masked men at the door chuckled quietly.
Alford grew uneasy, unable to understand why they were laughing.
“Viscount. Thank you. For making me laugh.”
Contrary to his words, Kai’s eyes turned icy cold.
“How amusing—it never occurred to you that you might not safely escape this place to see His Holiness the Pope.”
Alford, finally grasping the meaning of those words, jumped in shock and bolted toward the door—but the masked men blocked his path, preventing him from reaching it.
The largest of the masked men seized Alford by the throat.
“Guhk!”
Alford gasped for air. The masked man lifted him off the ground, gripping his neck tightly.
Alford kicked his legs desperately, but the brown eyes visible through the mask remained utterly ruthless.
“K—khhk…!”
Alford had expected the man to loosen his grip once he’d been sufficiently frightened. But instead of releasing him, the masked man tightened his hold, and Alford’s strength rapidly drained away.
The world turned black.
“Ughk!”
When Alford awoke, drenched in cold water, Kai stood before him.
Alford hadn’t forgotten the terror of death he’d felt before passing out. Only now did he realize that, in the face of death, feelings like shame or humiliation meant nothing.
Alford sprang up and knelt before Kai.
“I’ll… I’ll give it to you.”
Kai gave him a languid look.
“Give what?”
“The… the gold mine. Lavent’s gold mine. I’ll give it to you. Yes, I must.”
“What a shame.”
“Huh?”
“I was hoping to try this out.”
Kai held a terrifying instrument whose purpose Alford couldn’t—and didn’t want to—understand.
Seeing the device bristling with spikes, Alford swallowed hard.
At Kai’s nod, one of the masked men quickly brought forward some documents.
It was a contract transferring ownership of Lavent’s gold mine to Iris Green.
“A… Iris…”
Alford murmured involuntarily upon seeing the name on the contract.
“Viscount.”

Kai pointed the menacing instrument at Alford.
“Don’t speak another man’s wife’s name so casually. You have a proper title for her—‘Countess.’”
“I—I’m sorry.”
Alford no longer wished to provoke Kai in any way. All he wanted was to leave the torture chamber as quickly as possible.
‘Just you wait until I get out. I won’t let this go.’
Only after signing, placing his fingerprint, and sealing the contract transferring the gold mine did Alford finally manage to leave the torture chamber.
Kai personally escorted Alford all the way to the mansion’s front gate.
Alford planned to immediately run to a major newspaper office, tell the reporters everything, and then head straight for the Holy Nation.
“Viscount. Let me share with you a nutritious little story I prepared just for you.”
Alford wanted nothing more than to flee right then—but he forced himself to stay, looking up at Kai.
“You’re a greedy trading company owner, and I’m the Guardian of the Sacred Relic. If you start spreading nonsense, I’ll be forced to respond… Now, who do you think people will believe? A trading company owner? Or the Guardian of the Sacred Relic?”
“…!”
“The moment you start barking like a dog, those shadows you saw earlier will come for you. Which will happen faster? Them finding you—or you reaching His Holiness the Pope?”
Alford felt his heart plummet.
“Behave yourself, Viscount. I’ll be watching—so just let me watch. Can you do that?”

“There’s an unpleasant rumor spreading among the maids because of that man who came earlier.”
Lisi gazed out the window as she listened to Krishina’s report.
“It seems the maids believe what he said. And furthermore… Miss Gillette has even joined in spreading those rumors…”
Krishina trailed off, her voice overlapping with a faint, muttered curse.
“Crazy bitch…”
It sounded like Erwell’s voice, but Lisi decided she must have misheard.
“Iris-sama, regarding Miss Gillette—”
Erwell, usually so quiet, spoke up—but a sharp thud interrupted her.
Startled, Lisi turned to see Erwell wide-eyed, clutching her side and glaring at Krishina.
“Erwell?”
“We can’t just leave Miss Gillette be, Iris-sama.”
Krishina said.
Erwell lowered her hand from her side as though nothing had happened, though she pouted slightly, looking dissatisfied.
“If Miss Gillette, your personal maid, keeps spreading such rumors, the other maids will believe the false gossip even more.”
At Krishina’s words, Erwell nodded vigorously, her lips twitching as if she had something urgent to say.
“Erwell, do you have something you want to tell me?”
“Ahh, Erwell is just not talkative…”
Krishina answered for her.
That’s not it at all. She clearly had a lot to say.
“It’s fine to leave Gillette be for now.”
At Lisi’s words, Erwell’s expression soured. Lisi thought to herself, ‘She may not talk much, but her face is very expressive.’
She decided to take more time to deal with the Gillette issue.
Right now, she had no valid reason to expel Gillette from the count’s household, as the girl was, by all appearances, diligently doing her work.
If she dismissed Gillette without cause, people would assume the new countess was jealous of a maid close to the count and had driven her away.
Even if she claimed Gillette had been rude, no one would believe her—people always preferred to side with the underdog against perceived injustice.
As Lisi looked out the window, she saw Alford hurrying toward the mansion’s front gate alongside Kai.
Alford quickened his pace as if fleeing.
A short while later, Kai came to see Lisi.
With a glance from Lisi, the maids left the room.
Kai handed Lisi a contract.
“I’ve obtained Lavent’s gold mine, Lisi.”
The contract clearly bore the name Iris Green.
Iris Green.
In her past life, Lisi had lived and died as Iris Wittelo, and after marriage, always as Iris Fuchs.

Nowadays, she was known as the Countess Green—but seeing the name ‘Iris Green’ written on a document unexpectedly moved her.
“Well done, Kai.”
“Is that all?”
“What else do you need?”
“Praise or a reward that makes me feel smug.”
Praise that makes him feel smug?
No matter how hard she thought, she couldn’t come up with anything better than “Well done.”
“Shall I… comb your fur for you?”
It was meant as a joke, but Kai exclaimed, “Oh!” and immediately transformed into a wolf.
Lisi was flustered.
She hadn’t actually intended to comb his fur.
When Kai transformed into a wolf, his clothes fell away.
Which meant Kai was now completely naked…
Was she really supposed to comb the fur of a naked man?
But before Lisi could say anything, Kai had already fetched a large comb from her dressing table and brought it back in his mouth.
He dropped the comb and obediently lay down before Lisi.
Seeing him look like a well-trained, oversized puppy, something in her chest tingled strangely.
‘Well… fur is basically clothing for dogs, after all.’
Nobles meticulously groomed the fur of their pet dogs.
In fact, professional dog groomers had become one of the recognized occupations precisely because of this.
Lisi picked up the comb, sat gently beside Kai, and began combing the fur on his back.
The wolf’s fur was stiff yet glossy, feeling surprisingly soft to the touch.
As she combed, the thoughts crowding her mind gradually drifted away.
‘Combing a dog’s fur really is healing—for the one doing the combing too.’
Unaware that Lisi was thinking of him as a “dog,” Kai purred contentedly, his eyes closed in bliss.

Jereshien, Kai’s younger sister, heard an unimaginable tale at a small tea party hosted by a friend—an event she’d attended for the first time in ages.
Jereshien’s sharp eyes, slightly upturned at the ends, narrowed further.
“What did you say?”
“I mean, the Countess Green—your new sister-in-law—is having an affair behind your brother’s back.”
“That’s… that’s absurd…”
Jereshien’s steel-gray eyes wavered.
Her friend patted her shoulder sympathetically.
“It’s really unbelievable, isn’t it? Meeting another man while married to your brother… How long have they even been married? Rumor has it your new sister-in-law was seeing that man even before their wedding. Apparently, he even visited your brother’s mansion.”
“Ugh… this can’t be real.”
“Right? Totally absurd. Zen—I mean, you—should stop locking yourself up in the mansion all the time and get out more to hear what people are saying. You’re the only one who didn’t know about this. It was even in a magazine last time—someone credible gave the tip.”
“Wow, seriously unbelievable.”
Jereshien grabbed her short bobbed hair with both hands.
“My brother, he just…”
The friends present at the tea party exchanged pitying glances toward Jereshien.
Meeting their gazes, Zen asked,
“When did they get married?”
