The Beast Swallowed by the Flower (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 1
His ashen eyes traced Lisi’s throat.
He parted his lips slightly as if to bite her neck that very moment, then closed them again.
His gloomy, sunken gaze wandered from Lisi’s throat down to her chest, then to her abdomen.
His sharp eyes seemed to pierce through her dress, making her feel as though her entire body were being thoroughly caressed.
She wanted to run away.
Coming to find this man had been a mistake after all.
She knew well that he, renowned as the upright guardian of sacred relics, was in truth ferocious.
It had been an error to assume that his ferocity meant he could protect her.
She had fled one beast only to enter the lair of another.
Yet Lisi did not flee. The old Lisi would have collapsed with trembling legs, but this time she did not even falter.
Lisi lifted her chin slightly, revealing no sign of agitation, and met his gaze.
At the unwavering look in Lisi’s eyes, he twisted one side of his lips.
But there was no trace of amusement in his eyes.
“I must have misheard something.”
From between his blood-red lips flowed a low, weighty voice.
“Has the Flower of the Wittelo Dukedom just proposed to me? And come of her own accord, no less?”
“Yes. Marry me, Count Kaelbrant Green.”
Kai’s eyes narrowed.
It wasn’t an expression of amusement.
It was a sharp, probing look, as if trying to decipher Lisi’s true intentions.
“The Flower of the Wittelo Dukedom…”
Kai stepped forward abruptly and stood right in front of Lisi.
A cool, forest-like fragrance emanated from him.
“…seems unaware of what she’s saying.”
His hand slowly rose toward Lisi’s throat.
His large hand approached as if to grasp her slender neck but stopped just before touching her skin.
“Do you even know what marriage entails?”
“Yes.”
Very well, in fact.
“Then…”
His halted hand moved and finally touched Lisi’s neck.
His cold palm brushed down her throat and stopped at her delicate shoulder.
Lisi flinched but did not avert her steady gaze from him.
“You must also know what married couples do together.”
Of course I do.
So well, in fact, it’d shock you.
Instead of voicing her thoughts, Lisi raised her index finger and gently pushed away Kai’s wrist resting on her shoulder.
Kai’s hand withdrew easily.
“We aren’t married yet, after all.”
Kai grinned slightly, raised both hands in a mock surrender, and stepped back a pace.
Yet his eyes still held no mirth, making Lisi feel unnerved.
“Lady Wittelo.”
He lifted his palm upward and pointed toward the door.
“Get out.”
It was a rude and unmistakable rejection.
Any other lady would have been too humiliated to lift her head.
But Lisi was not like them.
This level of humiliation meant nothing.
If it meant escaping that house, if it meant truly living, she would do anything.
Lisi held her head high and stared straight at Kai.

“Alford, master of the Fuchs Order, promised Duke Wittelo the Ravent gold mines to have me. The Duke intends to hand me over to Alford once he receives those mines.”
“You’ve grown blunt.”
“You made me blunt first. If you prefer formal speech, you start using it. Then I’ll show you the proper courtesy in return.”
Kai’s eyes narrowed again.
This time, there was genuine amusement in them.
He stared intently at Lisi’s face without speaking, then abruptly turned and walked to the sofa.
Sitting down heavily, he crossed his legs and pointed his chin toward the opposite sofa.
It was clearly an invitation to sit, but Lisi did not comply.
No one would command her anymore.
Her life would be hers alone.
She would let no one seize and shake her life as they pleased.
“If you offer him the Benot gold mines you possess, Duke Wittelo will surely hand me over to you. After all, the Benot mines are far larger than Ravent’s.”
“Does Lady Wittelo truly believe she’s worth as much as the Benot mines? Because I don’t.”
“Wouldn’t the Flower of the Wittelo Dukedom be better than some mine about to collapse anyway? At least I haven’t wilted yet.”
A frown creased Kai’s brow.
He must have been wondering how the Flower of the Dukedom knew the Benot mines were about to fail.
But Lisi had no intention of satisfying his curiosity.
Instead of voicing his question, Kai simply pointed toward the door with his hand.
“I’ll say it once more, Lady Wittelo. Get out.”
When Lisi showed no sign of moving, Kai folded his arms.
“I don’t care whether the Flower of the Dukedom blooms brilliantly or withers away. What I’m saying is that you’re not worth acquiring by trading away a mine that’s about to collapse.”
Kai spoke firmly, his lazy eyes showing clear disinterest.
“So, Lady Wittelo, get out—before I break that pretty neck of yours.”
Lisi already knew Kai wouldn’t care about some ‘Flower of the Dukedom.’
She’d merely probed him before revealing her hand.
‘I suppose I have no choice but to play it now.’
Lisi took a quiet, deep breath.
Playing this card meant offering her life along with it.
She couldn’t know whether Kai would spare her or kill her once she revealed it.
No one knew she’d visited the Green comital household—and Kai knew that too.
Perhaps Kai would kill her to bury everything.
‘If I die here, so be it.’
Lisi understood what lay ahead for her.
Such a life wasn’t worth living—better to die here and now.
Steadying her resolve, she spoke.
“The King of the Beasts.”
At her softly murmured words, Kai’s eyes widened.
His steadfast ashen gaze flickered faintly.
“I know what you’re planning, Kaelbrant.”
Kai rose slowly.
Behind him, dark killing intent surged.
It washed over Lisi, engulfing her body.
“The Flower of the Wittelo Dukedom will fall before it even blooms.”
Kai’s hand seized Lisi’s throat.
Sharp fangs glinted between his blood-red lips, yet Lisi didn’t so much as twitch an eyebrow.
“If the flower falls, your head will fall too.”
Even as her throat tightened, Lisi’s calm voice made Kai’s grip loosen.
The killing intent vanished from his ashen eyes, replaced by curiosity.
“I know your plan. It will fail, and you will die.”
“What else do you know?”

“That now you have no choice but to marry me.”
Kai’s eyes widened briefly, then he smiled faintly.
“You won’t tell me how you know all this, even if I ask.”
“No.”
“If I refuse, you’ll go out and reveal I’m a beast.”
“Exactly.”
“And you won’t flinch even if I kill you here.”
“Yes.”
“But if I kill you here, I die too.”
“You’re clever.”
“Do you really think I’d believe that?”
“You already do.”
Lisi spoke in a tone so cheerful it nearly sounded like singing.
Kai silently looked down at the fearless woman before him.
Her skin was pale enough to show her veins, her neck slender and long, her collarbones elegantly protruding above full breasts and a narrow waist.
She was the kind of woman to make any man salivate—and indeed, he’d heard the rumors.
Countless men longed to claim Iris, the Flower of the Wittelo Dukedom, who’d been raised delicately in a greenhouse.
Many men undoubtedly yearned to hold this body, but to Kai, none of that mattered.
He had no interest in supple flesh or a face as lovely as a flower.
What intrigued him was Lisi’s demeanor.
Kai’s killing intent had physical weight.
Though invisible, it had form—and could crush an opponent’s body, filling them with terror.
An ordinary woman, or even a well-trained soldier, would normally wet themselves in fear before Kai’s aura.
But Lisi hadn’t.
She hadn’t even shown a trace of fear in her eyes.
That fascinated him.
Moreover, Lisi didn’t seem to be lying.
There was something in her gaze that compelled belief in her words.
“Let’s sit and talk.”
Kai released Lisi’s throat and walked back to the sofa.
Lisi remained perfectly still, standing proudly in place.
Kai frowned, then recalled what Lisi had said earlier.
He gestured politely toward the sofa opposite him.
“Would you please sit, Lady Wittelo?”
Lisi gave a slight nod.
“Alright.”
As she walked slowly toward the sofa, Kai thought he understood why people called her ‘the Flower of the Wittelo Dukedom.’
Her posture was perfectly upright, dignity flowing from her fingertips to her toes, her movements slow and graceful. Though she appeared delicate as a frightened bird, her eyes remained unshakenly strong.
Once seated, Lisi placed her hands neatly on her thighs and watched Kai intently.
She waited with a dignified expression for Kai to speak first.
“I believe you without questioning why you know I’m a beast, that I intend to do something, and that it will fail, causing my death.”
“…”
“But I’d still like to understand why you’d propose marriage to a beast destined to fail and die.”
In her unwavering violet eyes, a ripple stirred.
Her expression briefly collapsed as if recalling something dreadful.
Her gaze, which had drifted sideways, returned firmly to Kai.
“I want to escape that damned dukedom.”
It was an unexpected answer.
“I thought you were a greenhouse flower.”
“A greenhouse?”

A cold smile formed at Lisi’s lips.
For some reason, Kai found Lisi more alluring at this moment than at any other since she’d entered the room.
“That’s no greenhouse. And I’m no flower. I’m a weed that clawed its way to survival through hellfire.”
It hadn’t even been an hour since Lisi had faced him, yet she kept astonishing him.
Kai found the whole situation immensely entertaining.
“The Green comital household won’t be a warm greenhouse either, Lady Wittelo.”
“It will be a warm greenhouse, Count Green.”
Lisi stated firmly.
“The sturdiest, warmest greenhouse in this world—a greenhouse at the pinnacle of power, where no one may set foot without permission.”
The pinnacle of power.
Did this woman truly understand what those words meant?
“In that greenhouse, I’ll do my utmost, give my very best…”
A sweet smile bloomed at Lisi’s lips.
“…to live lazily.”
Kai instantly liked Lisi.

When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
