Inside the airplane heading to Korea, Woo Jin slowly pushed up his tired eyelids. Raising the window shade he had kept lowered, he caught sight of the night sky beginning to darken.

On his way back to Korea from Germany—his final business trip destination—the already long ten-hour flight felt even longer than usual today. Likely because of his urgent desire to return to his wife’s side as soon as possible.

He had wrapped up his 15-day European business trip in just 12 days. To bring forward an already tight schedule by three full days, he rearranged countless appointments and worked almost without sleep. Director Park, who had been watching him with slightly weary eyes, ended up gazing at him in awe on this final day, amazed he was still somehow alive and moving normally.

It wasn’t just Director Park—though knowing the other employees on the trip were exhausted and struggling, the sole reason he had pushed the schedule this hard was one and only one.

Since their marriage, he had never been separated from Tae Eun for more than five days. Though he traveled frequently for work, most trips lasted only three nights and four days; even the few week-long trips he’d taken before had been wrapped up in five days and he’d returned home. Thus, this European trip—the first since his appointment as CEO of Jangwon Electronics—had filled him with anxiety from the outset, and inevitably, the very thing he’d feared came to pass.

Exactly on day five, Min Tae Eun suffered withdrawal symptoms. Merely thinking of her made his body swell unbearably, rendering him sleepless at night, and he even desperately craved cigarettes—despite having quit long ago. Realizing he couldn’t go on like this, he drastically rearranged his schedule, completing the 15-day itinerary in just 12 days.

Yet, inside the plane—after all that trouble and hardship—he found himself letting out a hollow laugh.

He wondered if Tae Eun even realized how anxious and worn-out he truly felt.

“You didn’t even make a single phone call.”

Woo Jin murmured, staring at his phone, still set to airplane mode.

Over the past twelve days, he’d carefully found time to call her and managed to speak with her about three times. But after that, mismatched time zones and conflicting schedules made it impossible for him to call again.

She’d never been the type to call often, yet considering they’d been apart for twelve whole days, he thought she might at least initiate a call once—but, as expected, Min Tae Eun had not.

Instead, she’d sent him a single video clip—likely filmed by Madam Hong—showing the twins slowly beginning to read Hangul, sitting together with Tae Eun as they read a picture book.

Without even realizing it, Woo Jin clicked play. Every time the children read a character aloud, Tae Eun’s ecstatic joy filled the screen, vividly captured before his eyes. Though the video was probably meant for him to see the children, his gaze kept returning first and foremost to her smiling face.

Of course, the children weren’t unlovable at all. Contrary to his earlier worries about her unusually weak attachment toward them, the twins, once born, were truly so adorable he felt he could gaze at them endlessly without tiring. Especially when they beamed—they resembled Tae Eun’s gentle smiling eyes so closely that even watching them made him happy.
