Early evening, Tae Eun dozed off briefly. Stirred by someone’s presence, she slowly lifted her heavy eyelids—still not fully awake—and gazed in the dark at the door that had just closed. Instinctively, she knew Woo Jin had stepped out after shutting it.

She sat up with effort from the bed, ran a hand through her hair to tidy it, got up, and opened the bedroom door leading to the living room. There, she saw Woo Jin’s back as he stood facing the floor-to-ceiling glass window of the balcony, speaking on the phone.

The lights were off, and his figure was clearly reflected on the dark glass—his expression deeply grave. Even without confirmation, she could tell he was speaking to Director Park.

Apparently, another serious crisis had erupted at the company—or unresolved issues were tormenting him anew. And knowing full well that Ji Hoon’s fabricated scandal had significantly contributed to this, Tae Eun’s heart grew heavier again.

How could she possibly become a source of strength for him?

As she watched his back with helpless concern, his voice—sharply probing, unnaturally low-toned—pierced her ears.

“…It’s Park Seo Woo.”

As if struck squarely in the solar plexus, Tae Eun momentarily couldn’t breathe. Instinctively, she understood why Woo Jin had uttered Park Seo Woo’s name.

“Park Seo Woo is no exception. This time, we must bury her completely.”

Her suspicion proved exactly right. His voice, thick with fury and regret, rang out with chilling menace.

Tae Eun had to grip the edge of a chest-high display cabinet with all her strength to steady her trembling legs—and soon after, Woo Jin turned around, meeting her gaze with a shocked expression.

“Tae Eun…”

In the living room, the only light came from the red garden lamps outside the balcony. Their gazes tangled in a silent, tangled web. A heavy, still silence weighed down the air, and neither spoke as a brief moment passed.

After a short while, Tae Eun broke the silence first.

“Park… Seo Woo?”
