Through the roof window left open for ventilation, September’s stars poured down.

The stars I gazed at now were no different from those in the night sky visible anywhere else—but perhaps because we were in Kentucky, I somehow felt a sense of grandeur.

Beside the narrow, cozy camper bed, the limited-edition Dark Black figurine gleamed under the lamplight, its surface glossy and smooth.

It had already been nearly a year since Do Jun and Su Kyeong began their modest camper life together. They’d joined forces with the shared idea of wandering aimlessly—and it had turned out to be a time filled with no regrets whatsoever.

Soon, the two planned to pack up here and return to Korea, as the NGO Do Jun belonged to had offered him a leadership position at its Korean branch.

Do Jun gladly accepted. After all, why not serve his homeland if he was going to do this work anyway? It would only feel more meaningful.

When he’d impulsively come to the U.S., all he’d truly wanted was simply to stay with Su Kyeong. Beyond that, nothing had been settled or even considered—and honestly, it had felt a bit overwhelming at the time.

Still, daily life posed no financial difficulty. Su Kyeong was well-off, and although New York’s cost of living was high, Do Jun himself had enough savings to comfortably last a year without working.

But money wasn’t the issue. A young, perfectly healthy man with nothing to do inevitably found daily life dull.

Of course, he felt he could endure anything as long as he was with Su Kyeong—but there was no reason to suffocate himself over problems that didn’t require such endurance in the first place.

After completing a short-term course at a language school, Do Jun began searching for ways to pass the time while pondering what work he might take on.

Then, quite by chance, he learned about Habitat—essentially a volunteer organization akin to Korea’s “House-Building for Love” movement.

Do Jun felt he’d finally found what he truly wanted to do. Building homes had long been both his profession and his enduring dream.

Yet he realized he didn’t need to build houses for profit to fulfill that dream.

From that point onward, the two traveled across the U.S. in their camper.
