After leaving Siwoo at the clinic, Jehyuk headed to the police station, walking the familiar path towards the detention center.
Initially, using the excuse that a child was watching, they changed the meeting place to the office, but the treatment of the station chief was lukewarm afterward.
After all, Jeong was still under investigation as a suspect, and contacts with acquaintances were denied for fear of evidence destruction. Only lawyer visits, excluding investigator interviews, were accepted.
Fortunately, the threat to report as a fake judge still went through, and once a day, they could face each other with a metal barrier between them.
The two always approached the bars as usual.
“I told you last time, you don’t need to cooperate with the investigation without a lawyer.”
“Yes, I know.”
Although Da-Jeong made an effort to smile, it somehow felt more eerie than yesterday.
“How’s Siwoo?”
“At the clinic. He seems fine, but they said it’s better to do it that way.”

“Who said that?”
“Lee Sookyung.”
Da-Jeong smiled softly.
“Don’t they call her Pumpkin Witch anymore?”
“It seems she’s not a witch anymore.”
Jehyuk also laughed playfully, making a kicking sound.
“Is Siwoo eating well and sleeping well?”
At that point, Jehyuk exhaled a breath that seemed like a laugh.
“Yuda-Jeong. I can’t raise him; he’s too picky.”
Da-Jeong laughed lightly. It was an inappropriate laughter for a prison.

“Is he like this only when I’m around?”
His hand extended through the bars touched Da-Jeong’s cheek.
“It’s chilly. Aren’t you cold?”
“This is the new police building. Don’t worry; the heating works well.”
Reacting to the comforting words, Jehyuk, who had been nodding his head, lifted it for a moment and spoke.
“Siwoo’s test results are out.”
Tension crossed Da-Jeong’s face, usually filled with laughter.
“Did you guess it?”
“Yeah. The results show traces of a sedative.”
Da-Jeong covered her face with despair. Anger surged at what could have been done to a child.
“It’s a medication commonly prescribed to patients with hypersensitivity or insomnia. Fortunately, the detected amount is minimal. There are no side effects, so don’t worry. And about the artificial fingernail…”

Jehyuk briefly explained the test results of the artificial fingernail, presumed to be Oh Hyun-ah’s.
Da-Jeong nodded silently. It was time to accept what could be accepted and think about the future.
“I’m in contact with the witnesses who claim to have witnessed the abuse.”
“I know, the lawyer told me.”
He made it clear that Da-Jeong should explain the entire process of the case, excluding any negative aspects to keep her from feeling uneasy.
“Hang in there a bit. The lawyers will pressure the witnesses as much as possible. They’ll emphasize that false testimony or perjury leads to severe punishment. It’ll work out.”
It wasn’t clear that all the witnesses had disappeared. If so, there was no need to announce it.
????????????
It was a short time after Jehyuk left.
“Ms. Yuda-Jeong, please come for a moment. Someone wants to see you.”

Clang! The police officer in charge opened the iron-barred door and spoke.
Da-Jeong was a little puzzled. Lawyer visits were over, and Jehyuk had already left. Who could it be?
Moreover, after not allowing her to go outside the bars, the officer, for some reason, turned toward the office they had visited last time.
As expected, the officer knocked on the door of the office. Then a commanding voice from inside told her to come in.
As she entered, Police Chief Jang Mansoo stepped aside from the sofa. It had been a long time since a junior gave up his seat to a white-haired old man.
“Well, let’s talk.”
Except for the first day when Siwoo came, Chief Jang, who hadn’t allowed the office, reluctantly yielded his room again and left.
A little surprised, Da-Jeong straightened her posture.
“Hello, Chairman…”
“Yeah.”

Chairman Park’s voice was gentle, his eyes showing kindness.
“I have some circumstances, so I apologize for greeting you like this.”
Chairman Park raised his eyebrows, not saying anything. He just gestured for her to sit.
“How is it?”
“I’m fine.”
“Cut the pleasantries. Just talk about the main issue.”
“Sure.”
“Is it true that Jehyuk suggested marriage?”
Da-Jeong couldn’t hide her tense face. The question seemed out of place, knowing the awkward situation.
What would be a wise answer? As much as she wanted to avoid being finger-pointed for having a child and raising him with the idea of undermining a wealthy man.
“Yes, that’s true. I… with Mr. Chae Jeonghyuk.”

“Is it true that you rejected my grandson’s plea for marriage, even though he begged and clung to you?”
“…It’s not exactly a plea. The claim that I rejected and turned him down is exaggerated. However, it’s true that I refused his proposal to get married. So please don’t worry too much.”
“No, why?”
“What?”
“Why did you reject him? Does that guy lack something? Is there something wrong with his character that you can’t see? Or does he have some unspeakable flaw?”
Da-Jeong clapped her hands.
“Oh, no! Mr. Chae Jeonghyuk is a good person. It’s just my issue.”
“Well, well! What’s the problem that you’re rejecting my grandson? Aren’t you going to ask?”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
