“Oh my, is that Chairman Park of Myeonghan Group…?”
“Yes, his precious grandson.”
Her response came out monotonously, her gaze still fixated on the disheartened child, as if only his mood mattered.
A fabricated smile spread across the woman’s face.
“We’ve heard a lot about you. There’s also news about your upcoming marriage with Director Oh…”
“That’s not true.”
“Ah…”
Confused, the women just rolled their eyes, saying no more.
“Nice to meet you. This lady is the daughter of Pureum Construction, and this one the wife of Hana Tech’s CEO. And over there is the chairman of Yeongshin Woolen Mills, our Yerim’s grandfather.”
Witch 1, as if significant, put forward her daughter, Yerim. Cha Jung Hyuk glanced briefly at the sullen girl and then lifted his head to look at Witch 1’s face.

Blinking blankly, he gestured for Director Min to come over.
“What kind of families are these?”
Director Min glanced at the women and then whispered a few words into Cha Jung Hyuk’s ear.
Cha Jung Hyuk nodded.
“So…”
He drew out his words, his gaze then shifted to the Yeongshin Woolen Mills daughter-in-law.
“A family that deals in fabrics.”
His calm gaze moved next to the daughter of Pureum Construction.
“That one’s a laborer.”
Then his gaze landed on the face of Hana Tech’s wife.

“Their family runs an arcade… that’s what it is.”
As he simplified the definitions, the confused daughter-in-law of Yeongshin Woolen Mills forced a laugh and muttered.
“What does that mean…”
“No, just wondering how grand these families are.”
The women’s faces flushed with shame at his lowly expressions.
Cha Jung Hyuk smirked, his gaze casually sweeping over the witches’ faces and then the three kids they were showcasing.
“Do their dads have private jets? Own a building in each of the world’s top ten cities?”
The women, taken aback by his unexpected question, just blinked.
“Ah, is that too much? Then, at least a yacht in Malta?”
Cha Jung Hyuk tilted his head in disbelief.

“Not even that? Maybe a villa in Lake Louise. Surely, not even that’s missing.”
As he observed the women’s reactions, his large hand gently rested on the drooped head of Shi Woo.
“Their dad has all that. How does that compare?”
The startled women’s eyes shifted to the child.
“Just pretending, like you all.”
“What?”
Ignoring the woman’s question, Cha Jung Hyuk picked up Shi Woo. The small mouth seemed to say, ‘I’m so sad.’
The woman retorted, but Cha Jung Hyuk ignored her and hugged Shi Woo in his arms. The small mouth, like a bird’s beak, seemed to say, ‘I’m sad.’
Crazy. He couldn’t help but smile at the cuteness even in this situation.
He brushed back the light hair covering Shi Woo’s eyebrows. As the forehead was revealed, even as a child, his handsome features shone.
When Cha Jung Hyuk stared at him pointedly, Shi Woo’s gaze lifted. Their eyes met, and Shi Woo, smiling, wrapped his small arms around his neck and buried his head against him.

Cha Jung Hyuk could feel the rapid beating of the little heart. He gently cradled the back of Shi Woo’s head, comforting him silently, as if saying, ‘It’s okay, it’s okay.’
Chairman Park’s precious grandson was holding a fatherless child as if he were his own.
The women, unable to comprehend the connection of this friendly display, exchanged puzzled glances.
In a low tone, he spoke.
“Director Min.”
“Yes, Executive.”
Cha Jung Hyuk looked intently at each of the women’s faces.
“Investigate the backgrounds of these families here. Especially those related to my family, scrutinize them more closely.”
“Understood.”
By now, the women realized the situation was serious. They didn’t know the details, but one thing was clear.

They had touched something they shouldn’t have.
Once again, the Yeongshin Woolen Mills daughter-in-law was pushed forward.
“Excuse me, Executive. If we’ve offended you in any way…”
Cha Jung Hyuk turned but then halted.
“You can’t understand simple things. Are you all thick-headed?”
He muttered, his gaze fiercely sweeping over the women’s faces.
“Your children can’t even compare to the heels of his feet. Mere commoners.”
“Oh my, little one, you’re so cute.”
The waitress, placing down the pizza, melted with affection in her eyes. Shi Woo, usually shy at such compliments, seemed unimpressed today.
Still in the aftermath of the earlier event, Shi Woo had a thoughtful look. Cha Jung Hyuk, resting his elbow on the table, quietly observed his face.

“Yu Shi Woo.”
“Uh… Yes?”
Shi Woo turned with a gloomy look. Cha Jung Hyuk’s long finger gently poked his swollen cheek.
“Don’t worry about it. Life is short, and in the grand scheme, this is nothing.”
“Uh… Mister, you know…”
Shi Woo hesitated, then opened his stammering lips.
“Shi Woo… Shi Woo has a dad!”
He regretted not being able to assert this fact more strongly.
Cha Jung Hyuk closed his eyes and then opened them. Looking into Shi Woo’s clear, shimmering eyes, he felt a surge of strange emotion.
Feeling like crying, while struggling with these feelings, the small mouth kept emphatically repeating.

“Shi Woo! I have a dad, but… Yerim’s mom…”
“I know. Yu Shi Woo has a dad.”
Cha Jung Hyuk chuckled softly, rubbing Shi Woo’s cheek with the back of his finger.
Relieved that he wasn’t disbelieved, Shi Woo’s eyes sparkled with curiosity. His innocent voice asked.
“Do you know my dad?”
“I do.”
Answering calmly, Shi Woo’s eyes widened in wonder.
“Really?”
“Really.”
“Is dad… cool?”

“Well, you should ask your mom for accuracy.”
“Uh… Mom said, Mom said dad was very cool. But Shi Woo doesn’t know… I’ve never seen him.”
His face brightened momentarily but then fell again.
Knowing he had a father but never having seen a single picture of him must be confusing.
Cha Jung Hyuk sighed deeply several times before speaking.
“Your mom is probably right. Yu Shi Woo’s dad is, well, perfect. Great at studies and sports, tall and handsome, very popular with women. He bravely fended them all off.”
He sighed deeply again, clearly self-absorbed.
“In short, he was a catch, but only your mom didn’t know.”
Cha Jung Hyuk rambled on, feeling powerless in front of his son.
Realizing the truth, he averted his gaze to find Yu Shi Woo tilting his head, fortunately unaware of the implications of the latter part.

Cha Jung Hyuk met his eyes and summarized it in one sentence.
“Anyway, he’s really cool.”
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!
The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
