“Firstly, it’s a case of pediatric heatstroke…”
The doctor, looking fatigued, mechanically offered his diagnosis while rubbing his face.
“With the weather like this, too much outdoor activity…”
“No, Doctor. That can’t be it.”
Anxiety heightened on Da Jung’s protesting face.
Though not perfect, Da Jung was a mother too. She wasn’t ignorant enough to leave her child in scorching heat.
Whenever they played outside for about an hour, she always made sure Siwoo rested in the shade and drank plenty of water. The early morning schedule for the orchard visit was to avoid the harsh sunlight.
Moreover, Siwoo’s mood was low, so they left the orchard in less than an hour. After that, they only visited a scenic dessert cafe, watched ponies, and took a drive.
There was definitely no overexertion that could have led to heatstroke.
“Doctor, could there be another issue? Please, do more tests, will you?”

The tired doctor sighed deeply. If she didn’t trust the experienced doctor’s diagnosis, then the harsh truth was all that remained to be shared.
“If these symptoms present without prolonged exposure to high temperatures, then it’s likely a combination of factors.”
“Combination of factors?”
“Like fatigue or stress. Children are more sensitive than adults and easily affected psychologically. Stress accumulating as fatigue and manifesting as illness is common. It’s like catching a cold when you’re tired.”
The doctor’s tone became increasingly stern, almost scolding.
“You’ve heard of pediatric alopecia, right? That shows how vulnerable children are to stress. They can’t even explain why they’re losing hair. They get sick even when adults see no reason for it.”
Da Jung’s mouth slightly opened, unexpecting this.
“Common causes of stress in children are similar. Being forced to do something they don’t want or witnessing their parents arguing. Ultimately, it’s the parents’ influence.”
The doctor’s gaze at the couple hinted at slight disdain.
Da Jung’s mind raced through various scenes, including Jung Hyuk’s nagging about not overworking the child.

She recalled countless instances of bickering with him, oblivious to Siwoo’s presence.
All along, without realizing…
Da Jung bit her lip, fighting back tears.
“He must have been showing signs of feeling unwell or lacking energy. Children don’t always realize when they’re sick, so it’s up to the guardians to notice these signs.”
Tears finally spilled onto the pristine white floor. The doctor, having softened his tone, reassured her.
“Anyway, his temperature is back to normal, and he’s stabilized. If he’s just dehydrated from vomiting, an IV will suffice, and then you can take him home. Give him some vitamins, plenty of water, and he’ll be fine soon.”
It was a conclusion that no further tests were necessary.
“Thank you, Doctor,” Da Jung said, bowing to the departing doctor.
She had noticed Siwoo was different but had only guessed his mood was off because of the ice pop incident.
Mommy hurts. Siwoo hurts. He had been saying it all along, but she, like a foolish mother, only scolded him for being sulky. Overwhelmed with guilt, tears kept flowing.

Meanwhile, Jung Hyuk, completely drained, buried his face in his dry palms and took a deep breath. The emotions of carrying his son to the emergency room had already faded.
What was it like? Even reflecting on it felt overwhelmingly vague, causing his heart to pound again.
Amidst this, Da Jung’s sobs showed no sign of stopping. His large hand gently clasped her cold fingertips.
As she raised her tear-stained eyes, Jung Hyuk gave a hollow laugh. She glared at him with pouting eyes, her tears still falling. Even in this situation, Yoo Da Jung had a knack for unsettling him.
Jung Hyuk’s sigh was heavy.
“Do you want a hug?”
Tears streamed down from her fiercely trembling eyes.
“Then Yoo Da Jung, you hug me.”
His large hand gently wrapped around the back of Da Jung’s head, drawing her in. The shoulder she leaned into was damp. There was a sharp and sour smell too.
In that moment, the hot grief choking her throat finally spilled over. Da Jung couldn’t help but break down in tears.
She felt pathetic for still being an inexperienced mother, sorry for being the only mother Siwoo had, and grateful for having Cha Jung Hyuk by her side at this moment.

It was comforting. The only person who could fully empathize with her feelings was right there.
Her overwhelming emotions turned into loud sobs, echoing in the quiet emergency room corridor.
The bulging curtain slowly receded, softening the harsh sunlight that flooded in, almost petulantly.
Awakening with a heavy sense of pressure, Jung Hyuk raised his hand to his eyes. He waited for a moment, letting his consciousness rise along with the sunlight, adapting to the light.
Meanwhile, the heavy weight pressing on his chest rolled off to the side.
A child’s voice sighed, then with a grunt, climbed back up, pressing down again.
A lazy smile spread across Jung Hyuk’s lips.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
