If you’ve come to desire what you want.
Beril couldn’t refuse his words.
The more she tried to doubt or think, the clearer his movements became, paralyzing her mind.
Only one thought floated in Beril’s whitened mind.
My plan has already been discovered anyway.
If his words are the whispers of a demon, and if he, acting like a demon, takes something away from me.
But if demons are as the rumors say, creatures that always keep their word, then if I can have what he promised, I will.
“…Alright.”
I’ll make the choice for myself.
“I’ll assist the demon and open the gates of Hell.”
Lifting Beril in his arms, he embraced her deeply, as if to say he could give much more of what he had promised.
“…!”
And in the heated moment, he wrapped her disheveled clothes with his coat and lifted her up, walking into the corridor.
“From now on, I announce this to Bine and all the demons beyond the gates of Hell.”
At his words, Decarabia and Ronove, who had appeared out of nowhere, bowed their heads.
Next to them, the bird Helbas, who had earlier carried Beril’s letter, flew in and sat on Decarabia’s shoulder.
“Holy maiden Beril will open the gates of Hell in the gate-opening ceremony.”
At these words, Decarabia and Ronove widened their eyes.
“Furthermore, I declare that Beril von Bine has become the consort of Archduke Belred.”
This meant that she was no longer a mere human. These words soon caused a great disturbance in the demon world.
“The holy maiden is opening the gates of Hell?”
Upon hearing the story, Naberus plunged his sword into the ground, muttering in disbelief.
The sword dug halfway into the ground as if cutting through black pudding, then stopped.
“Isn’t she not the Holy Maiden?”
“If that were the case, wouldn’t Lord Belred have given her a different task?”
A demon cautiously spoke from beside him.
Being of a far lower rank than Naberus, the demon was filled with joy just for the opportunity to speak with General Naberus.
“Well, he probably would have.”
Naberus, whether the demon beside him was happy or not, crossed his arms and tilted his head.
“You don’t happen to have another thought, do you?”
Around him, a few demons harbored doubts about the Holy Maiden.
It was a natural suspicion. Weren’t those who were originally not demons but magicians named as demons, cursed, and virtually expelled from the human world by the temple?
And now, the one who is virtually the leader of that temple, the Holy Maiden, is siding with the demons?
Considering the other candidates for Holy Maiden, who from around the age of ten had been practically indoctrinated with faith in the divine by the temple, this was an absurd development.
However.
“If the Devil in the depths believes so, then it must be right.”
“If the Holy Maiden publicly declares that we are not demons, wouldn’t the suspicion against us reduce even more compared to before?”
“Not just that, it will also be easier to expand into various territories under the name of Bain.”
Except for Naberus and a few others, most demons fully endorsed Belred’s decision, thinking that this would be beneficial for the demons.
“So it would make it easier for ‘business’ too, wouldn’t it?”
“Indeed.”
Among the demons sharing this conversation, a small cheer broke out.
The negative emotions of humans that demons needed to refine through their magical power had so far been limited to chaotic battlefields.
But if this event could quash the notion that “we’ve been misunderstood because we spent a long time dealing with monsters in remote areas” as stated by the Holy Maiden, and initiate external activities?
And if across the empire, credible Bain factions “endorsed by the Holy Maiden as not being demons” were established?
While gathering negative emotional energy for ‘business’ could not be done under the name of Bain, just the existence of Bain’s forces in various places would make business breathe easier.
It had already been a problem recently that the supply of magical energy was insufficient.
Moreover.
“Do we not have to pretend anymore?”
“Haven’t we already revealed that we are demons?”
Cheers among the demons gradually grew louder.
There was one problem, though.
“…However.”
Decarabia, who had shared the news with the demons, thought of Beril, who would be lying in bed by now.
The human priest, who had been half-asleep and breathing softly, would he really…
“…not run away from here?”
Decarabia started to grow serious as he watched the demons, who were so excited that they seemed to turn the world upside down: they ran across the ceiling, transformed into animals and back into humans repeatedly, jumping up and down, and giving high-fives to the animals they had transformed into.
The scenes might have been distasteful even to a demon’s eye, let alone how they would look to a human.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
