The loud music was thumping, pounding at her heart.
She was a calm person who originally liked quiet places, but today, she didn’t refuse Seung Hee’s suggestion to go to the club.
After spending every day in a hospital with white walls surrounding her, it seemed she also wanted to feel a sense of liberation for a day.
From tomorrow, her hellish residency life would begin.
For the next four years, she had to consider herself as without freedom.
So, for today, it felt like running out of the hospital to fully enjoy her last freedom would give her the strength to endure the next four years.
“You’ve already refused three times in an hour. You’re going to set a record today.”
Seung Hee shook her head as she watched the man walk away after her proposal to join them was rejected.
Na Young just drank her alcohol without a care.
She just planned to enjoy her drinks happily today.
She had no intention of meeting a man.

After all, starting from tomorrow, there would be no time for dating, let alone sleeping, once her residency started. What use would it be to have a new meeting here?
She was not the type of person who could have a comfortable conversation with strangers either.
“We’re already twentyseven. When residency ends, we’ll be over thirty. Maybe today is your last chance to meet a decent man in your twenties. Are you really not interested?”
“So, is the club a place where you can certainly meet a decent man?”
“In my eyes, there seem to be handsome men, men who party well, and men with lots of money gathered here. If I were as beautiful as you, I’d have gone straight to the man I liked and asked him to dance.”
Na Young just listened to Seung Hee, who seemingly dreamt of a romantic encounter coming to the club today, her sole hobby being reading romance novels.
Seung Hee, who was checking out the men around, spotted someone and quickly tapped Na Young’s shoulder.
“Oh my, oh my, what’s happening!”
Since her hand was rather strong, Na Young squinted one eye and looked at Seung Hee.
“What’s up?”
“I know that man. It’s Cha Hyun, the film director! Oh my god. The women next to him are incredibly beautiful too. Are they actresses by any chance?”
If it was film director Cha Hyun, Na Young had also heard his name through the media.
He was a young film director, who had risen to stardom with just two films, being hailed as a genius director.
Na Young looked in the direction Seung Hee pointed.
There was a room with a glass wall set at a high place where stairs led up.
The people gathered inside the room were all sophisticated and fashionable.

However, the person who caught her eye was not film director Cha Hyun, but the man next to him.
She could only see his back from where she was sitting, but that very sight evoked a memory she had long forgotten.
The back of a male student, drenched in sweat, taking off his tiger mask.
She had tried to call him, but the frustration of being unable to speak.
It was already 17 years ago.
This was the first time Na Young had ever been reminded of that memory by looking at someone’s back, so she stared blankly at the man’s back.
Thump thump thump.
Her heart, beating in time with the music, made her body vibrate differently.
The moment the man she was staring at turned his head, she quickly stood up from her seat and quickly turned to Seung Hee.
“I need to go to the bathroom.”
“Do you want to come with me?”
“No.”
Na Young hurriedly left the spot, and Seung Hee was engrossed in bragging on social media about seeing the film director Cha Hyun.

Tae Hyuk turned his head and looked down.
It was Korea, which he returned to after 3 years.
He still hadn’t adjusted to the jet lag, so it felt like night was day and day was night.
If his old friend Cha Hyun, who he’d known for 20 years, hadn’t called him out to celebrate his return, he would have been sleeping at home.
He already had a headache and was brought to this noisy club.
A woman walking through the crowd came into his grumbling gaze.
The woman dressed in a plain white blouse and jeans was more noticeable than the other women dressed up as much as the club’s glamorous lighting.
Her long and slim neck stretched under her tiedup hair, graceful as a ballerina, and her slender and curvy body didn’t lose its poise even amidst the noisy music.
As for her face…
Every time she passed, the men around her couldn’t take their eyes off her, so she was probably pretty.

In case the woman turned her head and he could see her face, Tae Hyuk continued to stare.
He didn’t have high hopes, but he couldn’t easily take his eyes off her.
“What are you looking at?”
Cha Hyun poked his arm, which was elsewhere.
He had specially arranged this event for him, who had returned to Korea after a long time.
This was the hottest club these days, and the women he invited were celebrities with both beauty and fame.
He had created an atmosphere for Tae Hyuk to enjoy and have fun, but Tae Hyuk, the main character of the night, was bored, so Cha Hyun wasn’t satisfied.
“Is your director’s friend a taciturn person?”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
