Taming the Dangerous Lawyer Secretly (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 8
“Why are you here at an event like this? Did you come to attend the dinner party too?”
“Yeah.”
“Why? This isn’t just any place anyone can walk into. Don’t you need an invitation to get in?”
Yoon Ji Woo walked straight up to Yeon Woo and fired off her questions.
As always, she subtly belittled Yeon Woo under the guise of casual conversation, bruising her feelings.
Yeon Woo brushed her off with a vague reply about being here for work and checked her phone.
She’d rather go look for him on the call than stay here with Yoon Ji Woo, who was already sizing her up from head to toe and mentally assigning her a score.
But Yoon Ji Woo clearly had no intention of letting Yeon Woo go easily.
“Anyway—hey! It’s been forever. Why haven’t you been answering my calls lately? You barely post on social media either. There’s no way to know how you’re doing.”
“I’ve just been busy, that’s all.”
“Really busy? Did my brother give you too much work?”
Yoon Ji Woo gave a bright smile and playfully poked the man standing beside her, who had his arms crossed.
“Assistant Kim Yeon Woo isn’t even my assigned secretary. That’s not fair to me.”
Next to her stood Cha Han Bin, laughing along obediently at his girlfriend’s teasing.
“By the way, who’d you come with, Yeon Woo? You didn’t come alone, right?”
As she spoke, Yoon Ji Woo kept scanning the area behind Yeon Woo.
“I came with someone.”
“So who is it? Did you get a boyfriend?”
“It’s not like that.”
Exhaustion washed over her. Yoon Ji Woo’s relentless persistence—digging and clinging until she got what she wanted—was evident even in something as trivial as this.
Especially when it came to the people around Yeon Woo.
That was how she’d found out about Han Bin, too.
“I’ll head over there now. You two enjoy your time together.”
“Hey, Kim Yeon Woo! That’s hurtful. Why are you hiding him?”
“I’m not hiding anything.”
Just as Yoon Ji Woo pressed for an answer, her gaze suddenly locked onto something over Yeon Woo’s shoulder. Her eyes widened, and her jaw slowly dropped in astonishment.
Yeon Woo could guess exactly what was happening.
Right. How could anyone possibly hide a stunningly handsome man standing right in plain sight?
“Wow…! Hello! It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Jun Hwi ignored Ji Woo’s cheerful greeting and urged Yeon Woo with his eyes.
“Yeon Woo. Aren’t you going to introduce us?”
“I don’t have time. I need to get back to work. I’ll go ahead.”
“The event doesn’t start for another forty minutes.”
Yeon Woo’s eyebrows twitched slightly in irritation.
“Attorney Cha Han Bin, could you please explain on my behalf? I’m going now.”
“…Alright. I’ll see you at the office next week, Attorney Kwon Jun Hwi.”
Attorney? He’s an attorney? From Ro And Yul? Wait, I think I’ve seen him on TV! Yoon Ji Woo’s voice behind them remained brimming with curiosity as she turned to her boyfriend.
“You must be pretty close with Attorney Cha Han Bin, huh?”
Now it was Yeon Woo’s turn to feel curious.
Why on earth would Kwon Jun Hwi—who never showed interest in other people’s business—suddenly ask about Cha Han Bin?
Yeon Woo lowered her gaze, staring absently at the two pairs of polished dress shoes in front of her, and answered curtly,
“We’ve known each other since we were kids. Our parents are close too.”
She was secretly worried he might dig deeper—these days, even thinking about Cha Han Bin was enough to sour her mood.
“I see.”
But he simply turned his gaze away from her profile and walked straight ahead.
Fortunately, his curiosity seemed to end there.
***
As they stepped into the garden, many people nodded in greeting toward Jun Hwi.
Now was the time to really stay alert. Yeon Woo straightened her back and adjusted her posture.
“Jun!”
Trending
“Suzanne.”
A woman in a navy tube-top dress waved enthusiastically at Jun Hwi from a distance. Her short blonde hair and large, elegant eyes belonged to a face Yeon Woo recognized.
They both leaned toward each other and whispered simultaneously:
“Suzanne Huitter. Asian Regional Managing Editor of A Fashion Magazine.”
“She recently divorced her husband—”
Yeon Woo, looking up at Jun Hwi beside her as she approached, and Jun Hwi, leaning down toward the woman, stopped just short of colliding.
They nearly touched.
Literally, his sharp nose hovered right before Yeon Woo’s eyes.
Jun Hwi’s eyelids blinked slowly as he looked down at her. At this close distance, she could see every detail—the straight line of his eyes, the subtle inner double eyelid, even the movement of his long lashes.
“……!”
His faint, clean masculine scent brushed past her, stealing the words right off her tongue.
A slight crease appeared between his otherwise neat eyebrows. Startled, Yeon Woo instinctively stepped back.
“What is it?”
“Huh? Oh, sorry—really sorry.”
“No, what were you about to say?”
His low-voiced question helped Yeon Woo gather her wits.
“…It’s better not to mention her husband to the editor. Rumor has it she got divorced recently and is now dating a younger Korean male model.”
“How did you know that?”
“I saw it on social media.”
The source sounded rather unreliable. Jun Hwi’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Still, caution was better than making a mistake. He gave a nod and moved past Yeon Woo toward the editor.
“Attorney!”
Again? Jun Hwi turned and silently asked with his eyes.
“The Dupré next to her.”
“Henri Dupré, director at H Fashion.”
“He’s not a director anymore. He changed jobs last month—to CFO of Y Apparel.”
“…I hadn’t heard that news.”
Yeon Woo raised her eyebrows knowingly.
“He emailed you directly about his job change, Attorney. I updated his digital business card info and resent the email. Did you not see it?”
Oops. Had she made herself sound annoyingly nitpicky? She instantly regretted it. Yeon Woo bit her lower lip slightly and glanced up at him warily.
For just a fleeting moment, Jun Hwi’s stern expression seemed to soften.
He clearly had something to say—but instead, he simply held her gaze for a silent moment, then slowly parted his lips, murmured “Got it,” and walked away toward his clients.
‘Phew.’
All that hard work researching random details—even almost getting a nosebleed—was finally paying off nicely.
Feeling a small sense of accomplishment, Yeon Woo followed behind him.
***
Right after the official event began—ladies’ restroom.
Yeon Woo washed her hands at the sink, repeatedly reminding herself not to forget anything important.
She was in a hurry. Shaking off the excess water carelessly, she grabbed her phone and quickly began taking notes.
“Who was the last person I wrote down?”
She had to jot it all down before the memories faded from her mind.
Dinner appointments. Golf invitations. Casual legal consultations. Reference requests from overseas law firms. Requests to be introduced to attorneys in other specialties.
Yeon Woo strained to recall every conversation she’d overheard while standing beside Jun Hwi, marking uncertain parts separately.
“Hey. Kim Yeon Woo.”
She’d been so absorbed in her notes that she hadn’t noticed Yoon Ji Woo standing beside her. Ugh. Yeon Woo sighed inwardly.
“What’s the deal with that guy? Are you two dating?”
“Why do you care?”
“You brought him along to a partner-accompanied event like this just to show off, didn’t you? Though honestly, he’s a bit out of your league.”
Through the mirror, Yoon Ji Woo twisted her bright red lips into a smirk, deliberately needling her.
“Is it really okay for a secretary and her assigned attorney to act like that?”

True to form, Yoon Ji Woo had scrutinized everything about Yeon Woo—and, as expected, had surely already gathered all of Jun Hwi’s basic information.
Whatever. Yeon Woo chose to ignore her, finished typing on her phone, and firmly tapped “Save.”
Maybe because she’d wrapped up her urgent task, she now felt oddly relaxed—and suddenly wanted to give Yoon Ji Woo a taste of her own medicine.
“There’s no rule against it.”
“Oh really? Should I officially ask Ro And Yul whether it’s acceptable for an attorney and his secretary to openly stick together like that?”
“You be careful, Yoon Ji Woo. Cha Han Bin is one of our Ro And Yul attorneys too.”
“What?”
Yeon Woo deliberately curled the corners of her eyes into a radiant smile and replied clearly,
“By your logic, who knows what might happen between Attorney Cha Han Bin and his secretary—”
“Hey! How dare you talk about Han Bin like that!”
Yoon Ji Woo’s beautifully waved hair trembled as she twisted it angrily in her fingers, her face crumpling in frustration. A tiny surge of satisfaction washed over Yeon Woo.
“So don’t jump to conclusions. You’re just tiring everyone out.”
Well—it wasn’t entirely baseless. Occasionally, very occasionally, secretaries and attorneys did end up like ordinary office couples: getting married or breaking up.
But that certainly didn’t apply to Yeon Woo.
“Anyway, just schedule a meeting for me soon with Attorney Kwon Jun Hwi.”
“What? Why?”
But Yoon Ji Woo wasn’t an easy mark. She immediately countered with something unexpected, leaving Yeon Woo stunned this time.
“Isn’t Attorney Kwon the top litigator for corporate criminal cases at Ro And Yul? Some employees who recently left our company seem to be leaking trade secrets repeatedly. I’d like to get some legal advice.”
“Just ask your brother. Why pay someone else money when you’ve got him? Attorney Kwon is really expensive.”
“Han Bin’s main focus is slightly different. Besides, I want someone fierce and aggressive—doesn’t Attorney Kwon, being a former prosecutor, latch onto cases like a bloodhound?”
When had she managed to gather all that information in such a short time? In some ways, she really was impressive.
“Fine. Send me a formal email. I’ll schedule it.”
“You’ll be the one personally serving, right? That’ll be fun to see.”
“What?”
“As his secretary, you’ll have to bring me drinks, right? And after the meeting, hand me the parking ticket.”
Here we go again. Yoon Ji Woo, the golden spoon who’d only ever seen secretaries wait on her father’s executives, never missed a chance to belittle Yeon Woo’s profession.
She had no clue that firms like Ro And Yul ran smoothly precisely thanks to professional secretaries like Yeon Woo.
“Well, I’ll do it myself if I’m free when the time comes.”
She didn’t want to continue this conversation anymore. After all, listening further would only make her feel worse.
In the past, she would’ve let Yoon Ji Woo drag her along helplessly and leave her deeply wounded—but now, having been through enough, Yeon Woo remained calmly detached like a true adult.
Besides, Yoon Ji Woo’s sudden interest in Kwon Jun Hwi—despite having a boyfriend—was so transparently petty that Yeon Woo almost laughed.
It was simply because someone else had something she herself found desirable.
That was the whole reason. Nothing more.
“I’m leaving now.”
Just as Yeon Woo decided to cut things off with Yoon Ji Woo before she grew any more drained and return to the event hall—
Someone suddenly burst into the restroom and rudely pushed between the two women standing in front of the mirror.
“Ugh, seriously? What the hell!”
Even as Yoon Ji Woo snapped, offended by the rough shove, the middle-aged woman who’d just appeared gripped the sink and started trembling violently, covering her mouth as if she might collapse at any moment.
She looked extremely unwell. Yeon Woo approached cautiously and asked in French,
“Excuse me—are you alright?”
The woman nodded, then suddenly began vomiting.
“Eek!”
At the sound of retching filling the restroom, Yoon Ji Woo shrieked and cursed aloud.
“Where—what’s wrong? Are you sick?”
What to do! Yeon Woo stomped her feet in panic and patted the woman’s back as she heaved.
“Ji Woo! Call 119! Please call 119!”
“Are you crazy? Ugh, this is so annoying!”
“Yoon Ji Woo! Stop it and go get some staff already!”
Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day
It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.
The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.
Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.
If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.
It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.
The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.
In the end, everything will come together and be explained.
One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!
In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.
Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.
However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.
Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.
Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?
——
Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.
His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.
Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”
——
The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.
Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!
Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!
The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…
——
But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.
The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.
She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…
Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”
Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”
Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?
[Small Theater]
The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.
Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”
Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.
Zhu Wansheng: ?
Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…
On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.
Warm breath lingers on her neck.
“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
