Already distressed, Yeon Woo was further troubled as Hong, who last used the laptop, was not cooperative.

“I need to know how it was last used to explain at the recovery center.”

“I just clicked on the documents I uploaded!”

“Attorney Hong, first…”

“And that laptop management is your responsibility, Deputy Kim. You should have managed it properly!”

No matter how calmly Yeon Woo tried to inquire, the agitated Hong Yu Kyung wouldn’t calm down.
It seemed that even she was terrified of the fact that she had last touched the laptop.

People around, witnessing Hong’s outburst, were hesitant to intervene.

“Attorney, I’ll first check if recovery is possible.”

This wasn’t the time to assign blame.

Without further delay, Yeon Woo was about to rush to the IT support team with the laptop when Attorneys Yang and Jun Hwi entered, having just finished a meeting in the main office.

“Oh my, Attorney Hong? Yu Kyung, why are you crying?”

Confused by the disordered atmosphere and the standing duo, Attorney Yang noticed the tearful Hong.

At that moment, Hong began to sob in earnest.

“What’s the matter?”

Jun Hwi asked Yeon Woo, who stood awkwardly.

“The master laptop has been formatted.”

“Then this isn’t the place to be. Aren’t you trying to recover it?”

“Yes, I’m on my way now.”

As Yang comforted Hong with a gesture, Yeon Woo handed over the aftermath to her and quickly left the room.

“Let’s go together.”

Jun Hwi followed Yeon Woo quickly, reaching the elevator button before her.

Once inside the elevator, Yeon Woo finally let out a deep breath she’d been holding.

“Are you okay?”

“Ah. The data’s fine. I back it up regularly.”

“No. Not the data. Are you, Kim Yeon Woo, okay?”

He naturally took the laptop from Yeon Woo’s arms.

Her hands now free, Yeon Woo lightly nodded and kept brushing back her hair.

“I’m not worried about the data. I know you take good care of it.”

His offhanded remark felt like a warm reassurance.

‘How can I get sentimental in such an urgent situation!’

But against her will, she remembered their kiss in the office last night.

Yeon Woo quickly changed the subject.

“Why did this happen? It was fine when I left yesterday.”

“Looks like a virus.”

“A virus… I hope it gets resolved.”

The elevator doors reopened. The two walked side by side towards the IT support team building.

At the crosswalk.

Yeon Woo turned her head, inadvertently meeting Jun Hwi’s gaze, who was looking down at her.

Despite the inappropriate situation, Yeon Woo smiled first.

Despite his reproachful look as if to ask, ‘You’re laughing in a serious situation?’, even the corners of his mouth slightly lifted.

Maybe spring is coming.

Though the air among the Gwanghwamun building forest was still chilly in early March, the sunlight reflected off the buildings felt warmer today than yesterday.

Even the flower pots at the café entrance behind him looked lovely. There were children playing in the tiny park between the pavements.

The pleasant wind brushed through his hair first before reaching Yeon Woo.

Everything about this moment, so out of sync with the stoic and indifferent man beside her.

Because he was there, laughter kept breaking through in this serious situation.

Contrary to their hopeful wishes, the laptop was irrecoverable.

After about ten minutes of expert troubleshooting by IT Support Team’s Chief Kang, the conclusion was clear.

“At least you had the data backed up in advance, right?”

“Yes, regularly on an external hard drive.”

“As expected. Ro & Yul’s exemplary secretary. That’s a relief.”

Chief Kang, after additional checks, diagnosed that it wasn’t a virus.

What then caused this issue? Yeon Woo and Jun Hwi looked at each other, both puzzled.

“Could it be…”

“Do you suspect something?”

“Was the attorney who stayed late in the situation room last night our team’s ‘X-man’?”

“What’s an X-man?”

“Oh, really.”

Exchanging such light banter in this situation, Chief Kang, looking slightly contemptuous at the attorney-secretary duo, asked an unexpected question.

On being asked which mouse was used, Yeon Woo replied it was a wireless one from the common utility room.

“That mouse seems to be the problem.”

“But wireless mice don’t have storage. How could a virus enter?”

“Ah, Deputy Kim really is a gem. Yes, wireless mice don’t have storage and work by pairing through frequency. But if you know the frequency, you can hijack and control the mouse via hacking.”

Listening intently, Jun Hwi asked with seriousness.

“Is that a complicated process?”

“With just one device, it’s simple, Attorney. You can easily get it for 100,000 won through underground channels.”

“So, you’re saying the mouse was manipulated to click the format command?”

“Currently, that’s the only explanation.”

Though unresolved questions lingered, they were pressed for time. Their best option was to borrow another laptop.

The return to the office felt shorter than before. Soon, they were back in the lobby.

Reflecting on it, the start of these strange incidents was the prank that had initially confined Yeon Woo to the first floor.

‘He suspected Han Bin Oppa…’

Did he also suspect him for this incident?

Amidst her thoughts, Jun Hwi’s sudden question caught Yeon Woo off guard.

“Are you close with that guy, Chief Kang?”

“Yes. It’s handy to be on good terms with the IT support team.”

Jun Hwi’s eyebrows twitched menacingly.

“Has your secretarial work been manageable so far? You seem to have had enough time to network.”

Why was he suddenly treating her like she slacked off during work hours?

Ignoring her bewildered expression, he muttered lowly.

“Maybe I should just keep creating special situation rooms and seat you next to me. To monitor Deputy Kim Yeon Woo.”

My Step-brother Is Obsessed With Me (Female-dominant)

A gentle female protagonist vs pitiful in the early stage, and a sick male protagonist in the later stage

Cheng Songer transmigrated into the body of a vicious cannon fodder female supporting character with the same name as her in a female-dominant novel.

In the original story, the cannon fodder female supporting character was inhumane, committing domestic violence, gambling excessively, being lustful, and even wanting to sell her stepbrother to a brothel for money.

As luck would have it, she just happened to transmigrate at this time.

Seeing Cheng Qingzhi biting his lip, enduring the tears in his eyes, looking pitiful, her heart softened.

She stuffed the money back into the Madam’s hand and reached out to him.

“Brother, come home with me.”
