Something was definitely wrong.

Why was Yeon Woo swamped with work when Kwon Jun Hwi was on a business trip? She even ended up working late.

“I honestly expected it to be like Children’s Day as the deputy said, but it seems like there’s more work than usual.”
“Yeah, Ji Eun. I’m a bit taken aback too.”
In the beginning, the atmosphere was good and the work was manageable, just like on Children’s Day. That was only for about 11 hours when he was on the plane.

The moment Kwon Jun Hwi landed at the airport, he started sending work from Dubai to Seoul like a man on a mission.

And always around 5:30, just around the time to leave, he would start asking for realtime data, keeping people tied to the office.

Thanks to him, she had to cancel her longawaited Pilates class and a movie outing with friends.

At this point, it seemed like he was deliberately preventing her from doing anything after work!

But considering the time difference, it was prime working hours in Dubai… She only had suspicions.

Anyway, if she finished work around 9, it was an awkward time to do anything or make appointments, so she would end up going straight home and collapsing.

The task he assigned her today was to find all the trial records and preparation documents related to M Electronics’ Middle East branch and upload them to the cloud folder in realtime.

Among other things, the problem was the old data that had been deleted after exceeding the electronic record retention period.

In the end, Yeon Woo had to dig through the dustfilled storage room to unearth the hardcopy relics.

With a thimble on her thumb, she meticulously turned each page and scanned them. With every scan, her doubts piled up.

‘Is this really necessary data?’
Given Kwon Jun Hwi’s personality, if it was really necessary, he would have prepared it in advance.

She couldn’t help but suspect that he was trying to torment her out of spite while he was on his trip, but she had no choice. Attorney Kwon Jun Hwi said it was necessary.

She didn’t want to be seen as incompetent by him. She was the type to work on a task until she was satisfied, once she had it in her hands.

So, dealing with the bombs he dropped, there was no chance of leaving work on time today either.

“Deputy, are you working late today?”
Even Attorney Yang, who usually left around 7:30, stopped to look at the relics piled on Yeon Woo’s desk and clicked his tongue.

“He wants me to upload it to the cloud in realtime.”
“All that by yourself? What about Ji Eun?”
“Ji Eun hasn’t been here for three months yet, so she doesn’t get paid for extra work. I let her leave.”
“Oh dear. Deputy, you’re having a hard time. Should I accuse Attorney Kwon of giving unfair work orders?”
“Please, Attorney. Please do! I’m serious.”

The office became quiet as the lawyers who had been exchanging jokes with laughter left, leaving Yeon Woo alone.

‘Might as well order dinner.’
While catching her breath for a moment, she was making payment for a menu that might relieve stress when her cell phone rang shortly. It was a message from Kwon Jun Hwi.

[Records of Chief Kang’s testimony at Cheonan District Court in November 2014] [Attendance records for December as well] “Ah, I’ll find each one!”
Even when she replied with her voice to the text message, she was not relieved even if she pretended to be cool.

Anyway, she had to do what she needed to do. She was eating the chicken mayo rice bowl that had been delivered while she was helping him find what he was urgently looking for.

[Dinner?] “······.”
Another text from him. Yeon Woo, thinking it was new work, bit her lips tightly into a straight line, but she was stunned by the unexpected content.

‘Is Kwon Jun Hwi… really curious if I’ve had dinner? Going all the way to Dubai?’
First, she sent a reply.

[I’m eating] [What’s the menu?] Did she have to answer this too? As Yeon Woo hesitated with a spoon in her mouth, she pressed her fingers firmly.

[It’s a chicken mayo rice bowl] Even while writing the reply, she had to laugh. It was ridiculous.

[Send me a picture] Why does he need a picture? Is it related to M Electronics? Do I really have to take a picture and send it?

All sorts of thoughts were running through her mind when another rush came.

[Picture.] “Hmm······.”
Seeing his serious request, she was really going to take a picture, but she was worried when she saw the mess.

A food like chicken mayo rice bowl, which you mix and eat, is impossible to save with a filter app if you take a picture in the middle of eating!

She sneakily moved the spoon covered with mayonnaise sauce and seaweed powder aside, tried to take a picture from as far away as possible by tilting the angle visible on the phone screen, tried to take a picture standing up, but no matter what she did, it was awkward.

I should have taken it before eating. Even amidst all this, she made such regrets, closed her eyes tightly, and sent the picture that came out awkwardly from a distance.

And there was no answer from Kwon Jun Hwi.

When male lead is the homewrecker

“I know she doesn’t love him.”

I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.

Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.

The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.

I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.

There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.

For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.

I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.

Here’s the story synopsis:

One-line summary: She is his lifelong obsession, to the point where he was willing to be a third wheel, scorned by society, just to wedge his way into her relationship with her fiancé.

Cold-hearted and indifferent female lead + Scheming and subservient CEO male lead

Intro 1:

“I know she doesn’t love him.”

With blood trickling from his clenched fist, Rong Xiu gazed at the woman before him, his eyes clouded with anguish. Hidden in the wardrobe, he had witnessed Fan Xia – the woman he desperately loved – in an intimate embrace with her fiancé. Yet his heart still yearned for her, defying all reason.

Fan Xia, the elegant and composed assistant, carried something mysterious in her eyes whenever she looked at her fiancé, Wen Lan Sheng. Strange occurrences began to surface – secret meetings with the young Gu Jin Yi, an unexplained withdrawal of 5,000 yuan… Then suddenly, her fiancé’s sister, Wen Jing, violently attacked her.

In this matriarchal society, Rong Xiu had risen to become the chairman of a powerful healthcare conglomerate, breaking through gender prejudices. But for the first time, he willingly stepped into the shadows as the other man, disregarding his friends’ warnings to become her secret lover.

Because he had discovered the truth – Fan Xia wasn’t the pure angel everyone believed her to be. And perhaps, he was the only one capable of helping her execute her mysterious plan…

Intro 2:

Rong Xiu’s biggest regret in life was missing out on Fan Xia.

He secretly loved Fan Xia for 7 years.

Watched her go public with her boyfriend.

Watched her kiss her boyfriend at their wedding.

Until that man blissfully nestled in Fan Xia’s arms, obtaining everything he could only dream of.

The crazy jealousy stripped away his hidden secret love, layer by layer, burning like wildfire.

Fan Xia, how can I have you!
