Finally, the day of the decisive battle.
“Mom! We’re h······ere.”
Yeon-woo, who was about to open the front door and enter, hesitated. It was because various items were piled up to the point where it was difficult to enter.
Matsutake mushrooms, premium abalones, Hanwoo beef short rib set, red ginseng, honey, wine, fruit basket, and so on.
The items with the Jusung Department Store logo, elegantly packaged and neatly arranged, reminded one of the department store food section during holidays at a glance.
“What is all this?”
“Ask Lawyer Neugeu. I’m curious too.”
Dad, who suddenly appeared, grumbled. Then, he spotted the flower bouquet held by Jun-hwi, who followed behind Yeon-woo, and was taken aback.
To exaggerate a bit, it was an incredibly large and gorgeous bouquet that could cover the upper half of Yeon-woo. No wonder. Since last week, Jun-hwi had been diligently inquiring about what his parents liked, from hobbies to allergies and preferred cuts of beef.
So, this is what he was up to. Who could stop Kwon Jun-hwi’s scale?
Yeon-woo lowered her head slightly and guided him into the house.
“Thank you for the invitation.”
“Oh my! The flowers are really lovely and pretty. Thank you.”
Mom, who received the bouquet with both arms, burst into laughter with a bright smile.
Even Dad, who used to complain that flowers were difficult to dispose of as trash after they withered, perked up at the luxury fishing rod Jun-hwi brought in next.
Up to this point, it was still relatively smooth.
“We didn’t prepare a feast, but there’s plenty.”
“I will gratefully enjoy it.”
“Wow, what a more splendid feast than my birthday.”
Galbijjim (braised short ribs), japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), dakbokkeumtang (spicy braised chicken), various side dishes of vegetables, and beef bone soup.
‘Has Mom finally opened her heart?’
Looking at the table, where effort and sincerity were abundant, Yeon-woo felt a sense of pride.
Whether he ate with his nose or with his mouth, at the end of the meal, it wasn’t bad.
The problem was what came next.
“Well, then. No, Lawyer Neugeu.”
“Feel free to call me comfortably. Father.”
After the meal, Dad and Jun-hwi, in a rather awkward posture, were in the living room discussing while Mom pushed them out to talk first.
“Ah well, we need a comfortable corner to talk. ······But suddenly calling me ‘Father’ is a bit much.”
“Then, you can call me Lawyer Kwon, Father.”
“Uh, right, that. Until the end, ‘Father’ is too much.”
He’s persistent. Muttering to himself, Dad cleared his throat again.
“The reason I called you from far away today is because I’m grateful for the ride you gave me at the airport before. There’s something to talk about as well, so I called you for both.”
“Yes. If you need anything, feel free to call me anytime. Thank you for inviting me.”
Even Yeon-woo, who secretly peeked into the living room while helping Mom in the kitchen, was just as nervous as Jun-hwi.
It was so difficult to create this situation. It has to go well!
Please, just meet him once, not as the heir of Jusung Group but as Kwon Jun-hwi himself. In the process of convincing his stubborn parents, Yeon-woo sweated several times.
In the end, Yeon-woo, on the verge of collapse, even declared, “If you don’t meet Kwon Jun-hwi, I’ll go on strike from now on.” Of course, the certainty of marriage with Jun-hwi is still not clear, but the thought of breaking up due to his parents’ prejudice is even more unthinkable.
However, now that this situation is here, why is it so uneasy?
Will today’s conversation really end well? He was calm, but strangely, Yeon-woo was too tense and shaky, feeling like his heart would jump out of his mouth.
So, using the excuse of moving the dishes, Yeon-woo continued to watch him nervously, glancing at him while continuing to do so.
“I wanted to see Lawyer Kwon, that’s why I asked.”
“Yes, Father.”
“Actually, Lawyer Kwon makes us feel uncomfortable.”
He nodded his head silently. When he saw his slightly smiling lips, a sense of sadness suddenly overwhelmed him.
“We are a bit uneasy about putting our child in such distinguished people.”
“I fully understand your concerns. I will make sure there are no worries.”
“Our child is a child without any accomplishments. Still, we won, overcoming our child.”
“Sorry, Father.”
Now that Dad, who was about to start the car and leave, suddenly apologized out of nowhere, Jun-hwi hesitated.
“Uh, what?”
“I’ll be excusing myself for a moment.”
After asking for understanding, Jun-hwi suddenly stood up and approached Yeon-woo.
Yeon-woo was also quite embarrassed. What he did when he came to me, interrupting his father’s words, was to take the dumpling tray in Yeon-woo’s hand.
“Give it here.”
“No, well, right now? It’s okay.”
“It’s heavy.”
As he lifted the large dumpling tray, his back and arms stretched tightly, as if about to burst his shirt, shone.
“What are you two doing.”
Huh, really. Dad, who lost his conversation partner, sighed inexplicably, clicking his tongue.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
